One big concern so far...

Also I don't think there has been one dunk in the two real games we've played so far. This would go along with a lack of a post presence.

I didn't see the 2nd game but in the first game Godfrey had a breakaway slam and Railey had a 2 handed dunk too. I think both of these guys have the size and potential to be good inside players. The problem is, neither of them have the experience to be vital forces fight now. But we knew that going in.

I'm a little surprised at the number of 3 pters being put up; but I am NOT surprised at our lack of inside game. In my opinion the ONLY player that could give us an inside presence is JVB but Coach Hoiberg made it clear early on that he is going to use Jamie as a perimeter oriented 3pt shooting big man; which takes him out of the paint. I was initially a little disappointed with this but then had 2 realizations: 1) Play to your strengths 2) If JVB was to play significant minutes in the paint it would do more harm than good because he'd end up spending most of the game in on the bench because of foul trouble. So on the perimeter he is and our inside game is left to Godfrey and to some extent Railey. I haven't mentioned Ejim who will of course plays in the paint but at 6-6 he will be overmatched in most games this year and he is an experienced freshman too. Face it: we will not have much of a post game this year. Sometimes it will work (when the 3 pters are falling) and sometimes it will result in our getting blown out. This is reality folks so don't ***** when it happens later on down the road. When it happens ... just think "wait until 2011-12; now we're talkin".

We didn't shoot nearly as many 3pters in the second game, only 13.

Also, there are more offensive options than shooting a 3 or posting up. Much of our offense this year will be based on attacking the hoop, either for a layup, a dump off or a kickout. How opponents defend that will determine where the points come from. And yes, we will get blown out down the road, and a certain section of this site will meltdown. That is a given.

Yeah bawbie, unfortunately you are right there probably will be meltdowns each time we get blown out. It will probably go something like this: we get down big early and shoot a bunch of 3 pters to try and get back in it; the 3 pters don't fall and the other team turns them into easy baskets on the other end; a 10 point deficit turns into a 30 point blowout; then people into total meltdown mode. Maybe if we keep repeating it enough people won't have unrealistic expectations. Right.

I kind of see this season as a wash. Thought that way before it even began. Freddy needs to get his feet wet as coach. And to mesh with the new staff. The bigs get to play alot as freshman and gain experience. We win a some and lose about the same. For each blowout like we did in the last game we will get blown out ourselves. That is the reality for this year. Next year is when the future really begins. Keep repeating this.

Like others have said, offensively our small lineup with a shooting 5 will create headaches for others. We will get some offensive rebounding due to the additional amount of long rebounds off 3 pointers.....I don't mind giving up post points in the paint, but I d worry about second chance points other teams will get. Hopefully our running game will make other teams suspect to send too many to the boards....or maybe there effectiveness on the boards may cripple our ability to fast break a bit. Could go both ways, this should be interesting.

Oh, and if we can get a servicable replacement for Brackins in the post, I'd argue that Jake is a much more valuable player to have than Brackins, as crazy as that sounds.

In the exhibition, Godfrey and Railey each dunked.

In the games that count, nobody has. I'm not saying that to complain, because I'm fine with it. It's just really interesting to see young guys that aren't trying to tear the basket down.

The guys seem smart about the shots they take most of the time, so this looks like a good thing to me.

Godfrey hasn't shown us much on the offensive end... other than that 15 footer he hit against ASU. I wonder if that was a fluke or if he can really stroke it. Otherwise, he rushes his shots when he is close to the basket. He's probably afraid of getting them blocked, but that's an area the coaches need to spend some time on.

I remember how crafty Cory Johnson was around the basket for his size. Or Kenny Pratt for us older Cyclones. If Godfrey can become half as good as those guys on the offensive end, he'll help us win many games.
