Country has long been a genre that name-drops other performers into its songs. The late, great George Jones was the first name that popped into my mind because of two songs.

First is "Jones On The Jukebox" by Becky Hobbs used Jones song titles in this minor hit from the late 80s. Side note: when I first saw the song title, I pictured Jones, the cat from 'Alien' sitting on a jukebox.



And "I Was Country When Country Wasn't Cool" by Barbara Mandrell (of course). The song mentions Jones, but he also has an uncredited vocal on the song. It hit #1 on July 4, 1981.



Also, there was "How To Be A Country Star" a top 10 single by the Statler Brothers in the late 70s. They literally name-dropped EVERYONE of the era.
