On That Note: Dynamic Duos

From the golden era of Stax records, comes the dynamic duo of Otis Redding and Carla Thomas. This isn't the original version of "Knock on Wood" but it's my favorite. I love their

My favorites.
1. Steely Dan.
2. Hall and Oates
3. Tears for Fears

Guilty pleasure/honorable mention: Yaz (Yazoo) Most of you will have to look that one up.

I believe this sumptuous piece of music and its album (Jazz Samba) started a bossa nova craze in the U.S. in the early 60s Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd.

Ira and Charlie Louvin. At least as good as the Everly's but they were country. Elvis came along about the time they hit their peak (mid 50s) and this kind of traditional country was pushed to the side.

Kind of cheating, but I can't resist a great harmony, like this one.

While both were enormous solo stars in the country world (and he was a rock n roller prior to that), Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty recorded many memorable duets together. This remains perhaps the most well-known of all their songs - and it's one of my favorites, corny as it may be. The song reached #1 in 1973.

I first heard this from Neil Young, but it's a classic folk song from Ian Tyson. I read that he wrote it in New York City.

Judy Collins later took ownership of this song, but the original isn't too bad either:
