There must be some people here who haven't watched any of Fred's teams. If Gibson has an open shot from three, he's taking it. Why not work on it? No he's not getting nearly as many as the guards, but he's not just standing under the rim either.
Luckily there's plenty more games. I have a feeling Bubu will have a game or two where he will get it to Percy quite often, one way or another.
Yes and it's important to note Percy has nice touch and it's not like he was just throwing up bricks or something. I know he swished one of them and he didn't shoot a million three's just a few and even the misses weren't off by much. He may look a little unorthodox when it lets it fly from out there, but he does have nice touch. I think everyone can agree Percy's touch, although it is odd to see him let it fly from 20+ feet, is probably his strength offensively. If he can make 1 out of 3 it is indisputable that it's not a bad shot. If he can't make 1 out of 3, then its a terrible idea for him to shoot from there. It's black n white in that regard, and I think his touch makes that end at least PLAUSIBLY attainable, thus making it perfect acceptable to work on it in the CCL.
Gibson has shot 1 three in his first two seasons and we were up by like 20 at the time with under 5 minutes to play. I don't think Gibson is shooting a 3 in a game that's close, no matter how open he is. He has a nice spot up mid-range shot but threes aren't his game.
Bubu has averaged 14 mpg in every year that he has played at Iowa State. In those years he was playing behind 5th year senior guards not freshmen guards. Not a chance in hell he gets his minutes cut by 10 mpg just because we have a bunch of freshmen guards coming in that people are wishing that they are superstars from the minute they step on the court. Your minutes per game breakdown are based on wishful thinking, not logical thinking.
There really is no justification for Percy shooting 8 three's IMO. If that's the section of his game he's working on, he's missing the stuff that will really impact his game. Working on boxing out, defending, passing it out, and using his right hand should be the main priorities.
Yeah, that's my only problem with Percy in these CCL games. I understand Percy is a great kid, does well in school, and is a good citizen off the court. All of those things are MORE important than his basketball skills too. So don't get me wrong.
But.... I'm sure the coaching staff has told these guys what things they need to work on in the offseason. So what better opportunity than the CCL to work on some stuff that you'll need to get better at for the upcoming season? That's what ticks me off about it.
I think its great that Percy is shooting three's I mean who needs a skilled big man down low? I mean three points is obviously worth more than two right?
So you guys still haven't realized that the CCL isn't really a "bigs" league? It's for the guards to shoot, have fun, and light up the scoreboard. Percy has plenty of time to work on his game, these don't even count for practice. It's them having fun.
I honestly think some here don't. I couldn't care less how bad or average some guys perform. Royce went into some of those games trying to get as many assists as possible. Percy could of had the goal of wanting to make X amount of 3s. He'll never get a chance to shoot 7 3 pointers in a real game. Might as well go out and have fun.

8 threes seems excessive, but it is the CCL, and it would be a valuable weapon.

So, what is this, you ask? This represents the three point shooting of a former ISU big in his 3 years at ISU. Players can develop a passable 3 point shot, even a big.

Should Percy be shooting a ton of threes in actual games (not CCL)? No, but if we are trying to drag an opponent's dominating big away from the basket being able to hit 2 threes in the first half of a game just might do the trick. Percy still has two seasons to get to where his 3 point shot is means to an end for Fred.
i think wednesday night percy should just chuck a 3 granny style and say eff-it to the cyclone fanatics wasting time on this.
