Oklahoma Contemplating Leaving Big XII

If the Big East takes some more teams, I hope the basketball only schools like Depaul, Seton Hall, etc. all leave and go to the MVC or some other basketball only conference. The Big East should only have teams that provide division 1 football and basketball.

I think we'd want to keep DePaul. Everyone needs a little tension relief during the season, and DePaul provides that.

VT, MIZZOU, A&M and Clemson join SEC

Tech, Texas, OU and OSU join PAC-12

ACC I think will stay at 10 teams.

BIGEAST will poach remaining BIGXII teams.

you think the big 10 is going to stay pat? if the super conference route is the result of the big 12 blowing up, i would guess they will be trying to get to 16 or 18.

This whole thing makes me kind of sick. The Big East is our best option, but it is not a good option nor are we a lock for the Big East. The Big East is unstable and adding the likes of us doesn't make it stable. Plus, we are probably the least desirable team to get poached by the Big East. Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State (who no matter what they say, will fight to included with Kansas and will likely win) are all more desirable. We have politicians in this state that basically said, sucks to be you, good luck to Iowa State last year.

If we go to another conference, we can kiss Rhoads and Pollard goodbye. I'd put the chances of keeping them at 50% even if we go to the Big East.

I also hate the idea of playing east coast schools. No more Kansas City Big 12 tournaments. No easy road trips to see the team on the road. Even now, it's easy to get to Missouri, Kansas, and Kansas State. The Oklahoma teams are even sort of close. WE can kiss any sort of media coverage goodbye.

I'll support Iowa State no matter what, but there will be even fewer of us.

Based on what?! You realize our revenue will GO UP from where it is today if we go BE. Yes, it won't be what it would have been in the new Big 12 but the BE is still looking at around 18-22 million a year in TV revenue once their new contract comes up. That is SIGNIFICANLY more than we get now. So how do we lose a couple guys that obviously like ISU when we will get MORE money?

I understand the Big 12 from a revenue standpoint is the best thing for us but everybody keeps thinking the BE crappy tv contract will remain in place...just not true. They are looking at getting a big payday very soon and ISU would be apart of that....hopefully.

I think you are right, BE money would be ok after their new contract. I would much rather have B12, because playing Cinncy and Lville does not excite me, but if it comes to that I can accept it. Having Rice or UAB roll into Jack Trice would be a different story, but I think it is a pretty long shot that happens.

Dont forget about mighty UTEP and Tulsa.

Sure, because a passionate fanbase and integrity are the two biggest keys for us to be able to bring in the money that we currently do.

If and when the Texass Oklahoma league becomes untenable we move on. We will never be a huge TV market. It's possible an expanded Big East could be quite lucrative. I have no stomach for realignment driven drama generated by the whims of two arrogant institutions, year in year out. We have resources.

I will be honest, if ISU ends up in the mountain west or CUSA, I will never watch ISU football again, there would almost be no point. I would still support the school and watch the basketball games occasionally, but going there would be a death sentence to the program. And the thought of Iowa beating us every year by 30 makes me sick to my stomach.

Big 12 is done. OU wants to go to the Pac-12 and the Pac-12 will take them, along with OSU.

Done?....I hope your wrong about the big 12, but when your dealing with schools er universities that have NO F'ing Commitment to the conference, this is what you have to deal with on an ongoing basis.

I really wonder if anyone even remembers who started and unleashed this crap on the conference....

And the Winner is....Mighty Mizzou with their talking to the big 10 and that inducing Nebbie to put their hat in the ring and leave.....

Anyway I hope the conference stays together but my instincts tell me its just going to keep on imploding until the Longhorns and Baylor/ Tx Tech are the only ones left standing....But remember the Longhorns will still get their way er 300 million and be the King of the Hill or maybe we should say...King of NO HILL !!!!!

fixed your quote

I have no interest in watching what will become triple A for the NFL. With the amount of money coming in, they will probably start paying their players eventually. Where I work today, the NFL is talked about a lot. College is rarely mentioned.

Truthfully, I would probably only watch ISU games at that point.

Final point, do these university want to be educational institutions or semi pro sports franchises? I have already heard thoughtful discussions about whether a degree is worth what it cost. At some point, there may be much better educational options for most students than state schools.

Another possibility is that OU is using the situation to create leverage for concessions from the Longhorns. With those comments from the Sooner administration they have shifted the balance of power in this discussion toward themselves.

It is possible that doing so could benefit everyone, if the concession were to include major reorganization of the LHN, or revenue imbalances, etc, or it could simply be employed to OU's benefit. Regardless, this strengthens their hand in determining the Big 12's future or lack thereof.

Iowa State can, in no way financially justify leaving the Big 12 except to join the Big Ten.

What exactly are the odds of that happening? Would it make sense for the Big10 to sweep up ISU, Mizzou, KU, and KSU to get to 16?

Not high. My point was more that a proactive move to the Big East by Iowa State is really difficult when we're paying for stuff like the new Football facility based on the contract with the Big 12.
