NFL: Offseason Thread

The last couple days I've seen reports that the Colts, Jets, and Bears have all reached out to the Raiders regarding Khalil Mack's availability.

I kind of see where Gruden is coming from not wanting to tie up that kind of money in an edge pass rusher. But Mack is one of the best in the league at his position. If the Raiders really are interested in dealing him now they better be looking for a king's ransom. Personally as a Colts fan I don't think I would offer any more than my 2019 first and third round pick.

I think Gruden is vastly, vastly overrated as a coach. He's going to dismantle what was a pretty talented Raiders team. His only saving grace might be that the rest of the teams in the AFC West have nearly as many question marks.

Agreed. He was overrated before he got fired in Tampa and the game has passed him by since then. But the AFC West is so wide open that it's entirely possible that 9-7 wins it this year. I kind of like the Chargers to take it but I don't know. I think it's the Broncos or the Raiders bringing up the rear.

Yeah, I think Chargers or Chiefs win the division, but it will be with a 9-7 type record.

As far as Gruden goes, he always gets heralded as this great QB guru, but a lot of his head coaching experience is marked with his inability to find a good quarterback. Not a great drafter, either.

Which is a shame, because Reggie McKenzie had been putting together a pretty good roster. If David Carr doesn't break his leg in 2016 I truly believe that team could have gone into Foxboro and beat the Patriots. That team was on a roll.
When McKenzie eventually gets pushed out the door by Gruden he'll be a very good GM for another team. And I don't think it'll be long before that happens, either. Yesterday the Raiders cut their 2017 second round pick, Obi Melifonwu. Teams usually don't give up on a player drafted that high after only one season. It's pretty evident who's making the personnel decisions in Oakland.

We'll see. I'm a Mahomes fan but there are going to be some ups and downs in his first year as a starter. And I'm not convinced that Kareem Hunt is going to be able to match what he did in his rookie season.
I'm more worried about the secondary. It is a pass heavy league and we traded our best DB while our best safety isn't practicing with a nagging heel injury.

And the pass rush. Got some young prospects there but not much for proven production other than Justin Houston.

Chiefs defense is gonna be brutal.

**** the NFL and these rules. 92 getting flagged for that is Bs

Thought I just saw on ESPN bottom line that Pat Elflein is out for the season. Minnesota's o line issues continue

I can't find anything on that. I think the risk is that he'll start the season on the PUP list, which means he is ineligible to play for 6 weeks, but I don't think the whole season is in jeopardy yet. I saw they did acquire a center from the Giants though.

Vikings just traded a 2019 draft pick for C Brett Jones from the Giants

Josh Allen is having a rough go of it against Cincy. Halfway through the second quarter and he's been sacked like four times and looked inaccurate on the rare occasion he's had time to throw.
