NFL: Offseason Thread

They had a return specialist/rb that was pretty good.

Yeah, I think you're talking about Eric Metcalf. He was good.

All joking aside, I think the Browns are going to be considerably better this year. I liked the Jarvis Landry move and Tyrod Taylor won't lose games for them. Myles Garrett looks like the real deal and they should have taken Chubb instead of Ward at 4, but at any rate the defense will be improved. I do think they erred in bringing back Hue Jackson but there's two guys with head coaching experience who can step in with the interim tag if it comes to that in-season. I'm not betting on it or anything but it wouldn't absolutely shock me if they won five or six games. Seems like a modest achievement but when the bar for improvement is set at one lousy win that'd be a solid one year swing.

As a Steelers fan I'm never going to be too complimentary of the Browns, but they've got a lot more talent than they did last year. If they had productively used any of those 1st and 2nd round picks from the last few years they would be scary.

They shouldn't go 0-16 this year. Baker Mayfield has talent, but I'm not sold that he's going to be the guy to take them to the playoffs. We'll see I guess.

You're just a dumb Steelers fan, who asked you? :D

Paxton Lynch needs to be cut tomorrow.

Yeah, because they're sure as hell not getting anything back in a trade. I'm sure he'd get another look somewhere else - Jerry Jones wanted to draft him in the first round a couple years ago and the Cowboys are a little unsettled at QB after Dak Prescott - but it looks like he's finished in Denver.

John Elway is going to find himself out of a job before too long, and the QB position is going to be is undoing.

If anything gets him run out of that job it will be the revolving door at QB. But he has a long leash even now. It's not clear who Elway's boss is, for one. The Bowlen family is fighting it out for control of the franchise. That instability could help Elway. And if/when Case Keenum fails, here comes Chad Kelly to be the next great white hope and buy Elway another year.

I like Keenum and his was one of the best stories in the NFL last year, but he'll be hard pressed to come even close to duplicating his numbers from last year. Guys who have been around the league as long as he has don't usually just all of a sudden "get it". When a career backup and journeyman has a random great season it's usually in large part a product of his supporting cast and system.

He should probably be talking to the Jets about Teddy.

Or Bears in Chase Daniel. It's kind of ridiculous that he's never gotten a shot at a starting job in the NFL. He's probably better than half the starters currently playing.

Crazy that one of the best to play the position blows when it comes to judging QB talent. He got lucky for a few years with Peyton, but outside of that his quarterback judgement leaves alot to be desired.

Is he though? I'm a Vikings fan, so I've followed him, and was very excited about him. He showed potential, but never really produced on it. Then he got hurt, and who knows what the recovery has been. He's a risky play, no matter how you slice it.

You're talking about Bridgewater, right? I think he'd be worth it in a trade, but it would have to be a conditional pick or picks based on him hitting certain production and playing time benchmarks. There's still no way to know how that leg is going to hold up over the course of a full season. If I was a GM and needed another option at QB I'd be very interested in Bridgewater but only for the right price. And from what I've read, the Jets aren't in a big hurry to move on from him anyway until they've seen a little more from Darnold and are comfortable throwing him to the wolves.

It will be Elways ego. He is very full of himself. When you look at the Broncos, they focused on the D and then a running game. Elway was good but not a great Qb. When the job was thrown on him to carry the team, they had poorer seasons. He believes he was the reason they won and believes the QB has to be phenomenal to do it.

Problem is, they mortgaged the farm to get a QB, Manning, who could carry a team fairly well. Now that he is gone, their run game is shot and the D has just gotten back to days of old.

I thought they should have thrown everything at Drew Brees in the offseason. He would have been great in Denver and would have instantly given that team a great chance to reach the post-season.

He is one of the guys who can carry a good load. He can also pee it down his leg, but more times than not, he does a great job. He seemed to drop off the last couple years. We always picked him because he went later but he always threw the ball in the red zone and the points were crazy. He probably is in the Brett Favre post GB area, has a year or two good ones left but definitely a short term fix.
