NFL: Offseason Thread

Cooks only has 1 more year left on Contract. I think Rams gave up a bit too much myself. 1st Round pick is #23 overall:

But would it work without Tom Brady propping the team up every year on a team friendly deal? I think it's interesting to look at who the more valuable guy has been during their run. Brady's gottena lot of the credit as the high profile QB, but nobody in the modern era of the NFL outside of Walsh and Montana has been able to leverage having an all-time great QB into a sustained run of success quite like Belichick has. It might just be a perfect storm where the best coach of his era and the best QB of his era just happened to end up on the same team.
I thought about that the whole time I was typing. Having a QB that will continually restructure and take less than his market value helps tremendously. He'll probably end up with a cut of the team by the time he finally retires.

Jesus, the Rams are going all out

The NFC is shaping up to be brutally competitive this year. The Eagles, Vikes, Rams, and Saints could all make a claim as the conference's best team in 2018. And the Cowboys, Falcons and Panthers won't be too far behind. And the Packers roster looks shaky but when healthy Aaron Rodgers is absolutely capable of dragging a subpar team to the playoffs.

Titans got a new helmet & jerseys:

Broncos signed Marquette king. Wonder if he’ll mock riding a bronco still as his celebration

I don't know, but that's a great signing for Denver. He's one of the league's best punters. Unless the Raiders were just in a cap crunch I don't really know whay they dumped him.

I heard Aldon Smith got busted again. This time for violating his electronic monitoring. I'm guessing he cut off the ankle bracelet

Jets going QB. Colts might be able to get the guy they wanted at six, or they might not be done moving down if another QB falls to that sixth pick. Love it for Indy provided that Ballard hits on those newly acquired picks.
The Colts could use Saquon Barkley, Bradley Chubb or Quenton Nelson. At least one of those guys will be available at #6 so the trade with the Jets makes perfect sense.

I got them taking Nelson in my mock draft, which will be finished and posted soon.

Looking forward to your mock. I think the Colts are sitting in a really good spot. In their absolute worst case scenario the three guys you mentioned all come off the board in the first five picks. Even that would be OK, because that would probably mean there will be at least two of the four QBS generally being put near the top - Darnold, Allen, Mayfield and Rosen - all sitting there for the taking if a QB needy team is willing to move up and get their guy. And there's a glut of players that I'd put on par with Chubb and slightly below Nelson and Barkley - Tremaine Edmunds (gonna be a beast for someone and nobody's talking about him right now), Denzel Ward, Mike McGlinchey, Roquan Smith, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Derwin James. Indy could conceivably move out of the top ten and still land any one of those guys. The easy thing to do is stay at six and take Nelson if he falls to them. I think he might be the best prospect in the draft regardless of position. But if he goes before they pick then they're going to have plenty of good options. That's the upside of having a roster that's bereft of talent. Since you need virtually everything you can go in pretty much any direction and as long as the guy pans out, you made the right move.

The Browns will definitely take a QB. They could take one at #4 and get Barkley or Chubb at #1, but I think they take Darnold #1. The Giants are making a mock draft tough because of all the options they have. I hear they don't want a QB unless it's Darnold so they may trade up to the #1 spot or they could trade down. The Bills are going to give up a lot to move up and get a QB. The Giants or the Browns #4 pick are the best spots for Buffalo to trade into. If they don't then they could be screwed if the Giants take a QB. The Browns and Jets are taking QB's and Denver might at #5. We could see 4 QB's taken in the first 4 picks! That would be huge for other teams, having talented players at other positions fall to them.

I'm having a hard time trying to predict what the Giants will do. If Eli is their guy the next few years then get him a weapon in Barkley. On the other hand, the Giants rarely get a pick this high and this draft is full of QB's so they could get their future franchise guy.

Seems like an overpay to me:

@RapSheet: The #Browns and WR Jarvis Landry are going to agree to terms on a 5-year, $75.5M extension, sources say. He gets $47M guaranteed… crazy for those who considered him a slot receiver.
