I'm a Broncos fan and if they can't get Cousins or Keenum in free agency and they decide to draft a QB in the 1st round, I hope it's Baker Mayfield. Not saying he's worthy of the #5 pick where Denver currently sits, but I wouldn't be shocked to see them deal the pick and move back a few spots, pick up an extra pick or two later in the draft and select Mayfield. If I was a betting man though I would roll with Denver signing a vet QB and using the #5 on ND guard Nelson.
You know, the funny thing is that if they can get it right then their timing is pretty good. Pittsburgh is coming up on the end of the Roethlisberger era, the Ravens are in bad need of a reboot, and the Bengals are going nowhere fast. Big if, though. I'll be surprised if Hue Jackson makes it through a full season. Anything can happen and maybe they turn it around overnight, but I think it's more likely they're in the 4-6 win range and picking in the top five again next year.
Can't miss pick. Not exciting for fans but that dude is a beast in the middle of the line. IMO he and Fitzpatrick are the two sure things at the top of the draft this year.
Completely agree with you. Pair him up with 1st round pick last year Garrett Bolles and you've got the start of a young and very mean o-line!
I'm a Pittsburgh fan, so I'm biased. We will miss Big Ben but hopefully we will figure something out relatively quickly. If we can get Lamar Jackson at the end of the first I would be really happy, but I doubt that happens. He could be Slash version 2 until Ben retires and then jump into the QB role.
But better chances that they do everything to bolster the team for the next few years for a few more title runs with Ben, then sign a bridge QB after he retires while looking for the next franchise QB.
Yeah, I don't know about Pittsburgh. They could look a lot different in a couple years if they can't get a long term deal done with Bell and Big Ben limps away. Their defense took such a big hit when they lost Shazier. I know he talks about coming back but I'll be shocked if he ever takes the field again. I would guess they'll be looking to shore up the defense either through free agency or the draft. Mason Rudolph would be kind of interesting developmental guy if they decided to pull the plug on the Landry Jones experiment.
Landry Jones has gotten multiple chances and is just terrible. If he's ever the full time starter, there will be riots in the streets of Pittsburgh. If Josh Dobbs progresses at all I hope he overtakes Landry as the backup this season. I don't think he's starting caliber either though.
I don't think Shazier will ever play again. I'd be ok with him walking and being able to live a happy life honestly. Poor guy deserves that at least.
I think they'll take an ILB, hopefully Rashaan Evans, in the first round. DB in the second. Best available (Allen Lazard?) in the third. An OL somewhere in the remaining picks for depth and development and at least one big 3/4 DE.
One of the top replies to Schefter's tweet said Sherman should follow Rod Woodson and switch to safety. That seems like a good idea.
I disagree. He's not an All Pro corner anymore but he was still playing at a pretty high level before he got hurt last season. Multiple teams will be interested, and you can't rule out a return to Seattle on a team friendly deal. He can be a pain in the ass but I'm guessing he'll draw interest from (among others) the Chargers, Cowboys, and Pats.
I think they did pretty well to get a fifth round pick for him now, especially considering that most teams were counting on them just releasing Talib. At the very least it clears cap space to chase Kirk Cousins or another need in free agency.
