The US and GGG are playing with house money at this point. Even if they lose 5-0 to Mexico, this tournament has been a success. Berhalter used it to identify a handful of guys that might be useful when WCQ starts and also to give a good chunk of international minutes to young MLS players. Everybody knows this is a C-squad for the US, so even a meltdown in the final can be pretty easily forgiven.

I don’t think they are going to meltdown though. The only goal the US has given up in this tournament so far was a penalty against Martinique. Other than that, nobody has hit the back of the net against us. Some of that is solid defensive play, some of it Turner making some great saves. I think we will be set up to frustrate Mexico and I think we can do it. Crap, Canada held Mexico to only a PK goal until basically the last kick of the match last night. The final may not be a pretty soccer from a US perspective, but I think we will be able to make Mexico sweat and maybe steal another trophy from them this summer.

No, this is pretty close to Mexico’s best team. Ochoa is at the Olympics as an overage player with the U23s at keeper and Lozano got hurt early in the tournament. The rest is their top shelf team for the most part.

No Vela? No Chicharito?

Hanging in there and getting a few more opportunities than I expected, so can't complain too much. At least we have a good goal keeper.

Vela hasn't played for Mexico in years. Chichirito is only MLS good.

Tata’s got some weird hangup about Chicharito. I can understand not calling him up last year when he was hurt/out of shape/terrible for the Galaxy. But he’s looked great this year and I think he’d 100% be with this team if there wasn’t the falling out with Martino.
