***Official UNI Meltdown Thread***

To say this is disappointing is an understatement. I just don't see how you correct the problems this team has in 2 weeks. Defense is full of holes against the run and the pass, which is not good. One sack for the DL, and the OL gave up 6 sacks against what should have been a weaker opponent. All those backs that ISU is supposed to have, yet the QB is the leading rusher in the game, with about the same number of carries as all the other backs combined.

No bowl game this year without a miraculous turnaround. It's possible ISU will not be favored in any of the remaining games, although Tulsa and Iowa did not look good in their openers either. I'm not sure ISU can handle either of Iowa's lines if they can't handle UNI's though.

I'm afraid this is going to be a long, frustrating year, plus on top of all that......we get bad news about MBB today. Guess it is time to become a true volleyball fan.

I wanted the offense to prove something before buying in that they were better.
I didn't think the D would completely fold like a cheap suit right away. They showed some backbone after that, but after 3 touchdowns is a little too late.

We need to fire messing ham tonight; hire frank solich in the morning; institute the triple option as the new scheme; spend the next to weeks implementing it; then run Rohach as qb and nealy at tailback.
Again, as in many years, just too vanilla on offense. Do we even have tight ends? Too many wasted runs. Lucky this was only on mediacom.

It's often said that in life, sometimes you need to find your rock bottom before you can start to turn things around. I wonder if the same can be said for this program. From what I've seen Paul Rhoads seems very intelligent and (wishful thinking) still has a lot to offer as a college football coach. I'm wondering/hoping that this loss maybe will force him and the rest of the team to get past all of the "so proud" and "all in" feel-goody bull **** and really stop and look at where the programs at, and think about what direction the team might be headed in and make some changes to how the team is run (e.g. firing Messingham).

I'm incredibly drunk right now.

Messingham has always sucked! It wont get any better, he couldn't coach at division 3 Upper Iowa let along at D1. Fire his dumb ***.

I see a lot of people blaming the offense, and yes, they were not great but was it really their fault? I seem to remember the defense spotting UNI 21 points. Seriously, go back and watch the game and see when the first non-positive-yardage play happened and it was the last possession of the first half. The first 3 possessions UNI did WHATEVER THEY WANTED! I am a huge Wally fan but I really don't understand what their gameplan was, unless it was "Let UNI score 21 points before tackling someone", in which case - Job Well Done.

I hear you, but 20 freaking points against an FCS team. Yes the defense stunk it up the first half. Defensive adjustments were made and things were tightened up. The offense got worse as the game went on. This is a familiar pattern. Sam is OK. There is talent on the offensive side of the ball. But play calling was just atrocious. No flow whatsoever. UNI scores 28, we needed to score more. 20 freaking points! The offensive suckage continues. Not a talent problem. A scheme and coaching problem

Dude, we didn't score a point in the last 20 minutes of this game. ZERO POINTS!

I just don't get how our offense can be that bad after 5 years. We've had the chance to recruit the players for our "system", and it hasn't worked.

It's so pitiful. It seems like every offensive series goes zone read, zone read, throw short of the sticks, punt.

I mean, we've got great running backs, and decent tight ends... how is that the offense that we play?

Just plain horrible in almost every phase. Give UNI credit, they came to play, which is more than I can say for ISU. You could see if from the opening kickoff, one team wanted to play, the other wanted to take a nap. Really, really sad. ISU made David Johnson look like a Heisman candidate tonight. He was pretty good, but the tackling was a joke.
