Fire a 20 game winning coach to try and get a 30 game winning coach four seasons into his tenure? Yeah, no thanks.
Tom Davis HC TOE. Great guy. Smart. Hard working. Players worked hard for him. Never seemed to miss a dance. He was fired because he rarely finished in the top 20 or made the sweet sixteen. Being limited to kinda good is not always acceptable. Have they done better since him? Probably not.
Owens: 77% shooter went 4/4 so he was a point above average.
Mooney is a 75% shooter and went 2/2 so he was where you'd expect.
Culver is a 70% shooter and went 3/3 so he was a point above average.
Moretti is automatic from the line and went 4/4 so he was right where you'd expect.
Jacobson is a 67% shooter and went 3/4 so he was where you'd expect.
Weiler-Babb is a 75% shooter and went 3/5 so he left a point on the board.
Wigginton is a 71% shooter and went 9/14 so he left a point on the board.
Shayok is an 87% shooter and went 1/2 so he left a point on the board.
THT is a 63% shooter and went 1/1 so he was where you'd expect.
Tech ended up +2 from the stripe. We ended up -3. Much more likely final still makes it 78-76 Tech.
True, your numbers/averages don't lie. And I appreciate the information as I've learned a great deal about basketball over the last few years from many of the posters on this board.
But I guess the question I should have posed is, why aren't all of our guys shooting in the 75 and above % range? Is it lack of skill, vision issues, too soft, bad luck, never learned how in HS or AAU,...or is it possible to just practice the hell out of this skill in the offseason and raise your numbers?
The last few games prohm has been thowing out new line ups. Even before whatever went down with lard and Shayok. And talleys minutes finally jumped from like 2 min to 10. He started putting Talley in with lard when the starting line has its regular slow start.

no one questioned your “fanhood”... so, if your premise is based on history, I’d take a Dean Uthoff, Jarrod Homan, Victor Alexander for rebounding. But if you’re basing your argument on science, I’d go with Mark Baugh...that dude defied gravity.

Working yesterday during the game. Listened to John & Eric last 7-8 minutes. Then read CF for analysis.
Just now watched entire game. Not sure some watched the same game I did. Great game by two very good teams. Phantom call against NWB on Culver, down 3, was huge.
Certainly wish Cyclones could have made a couple more plays, a few more stops, a few more free throws, but overall, thought they played very well and showed great attitude and effort. Feel a lot better about postseason opportunity.

He said he liked Conditt's energy last game so he went with him. I thought they missed a huge opportunity to use Lard in the second half when they got Owens in foul trouble. Lard is the best low post scorer on the team and Jacobson was scoring on him so I have no doubt that Lard could have abused him down low and if they doubled guys would be open from 3.
Thought they played a lot better than at WVU but they still didn't play great defense but the team played with more energy and the guys seemed to be having more fun and playing together out there. Hope that is a step in the right direction and they can win a couple games in the NCAA tournament. For the Big 12 tournament, I just want them to beat Baylor.
I would be shocked if Cam played another minute in an Iowa State uniform. I think that message was pretty clear when he didn’t play a minute on Saturday.
Here is how I read it.
Cam is laughing on the bench getting blown out. Trying to get Talley laughing with him. Conditt looks behind him towards Lard. Team says they have a players only meeting. Prohm says he met with every player for 10-20 minutes about what their thoughts were on the collapse the last couple weeks. Next game, Lard doesn't play. Seems fairly easy for me to figure out.
Some thoughts (I was there Saturday):
Tech is very talented, and very well disciplined. They constantly poked balls out of our guys' hands in the lane, we had way too many turnovers.
Cyclones played much, much better defense.....several instances of the shot clock running down and TT throws up a (contested) 3-pointer that goes in. That has to be frustrating as hell.
We shared the ball better, I just think Wiggs could do a better job of distributing when he drives in the lane. There was one sequence in the second half where he got trapped under the basket, and instead of trying to force up a shot, he whipped it to Shayok for a 3. He needs to do more of that.
THT also needs to learn not to get so full of himself when he makes a 3. He seems to think every one will go in after that.
We actually outrebounded them for most of the game (I didn't see the final totals), which absolutely amazed me. But too many turnovers and not enough assists.
Culver is the POY in the Big XII. I had been holding out for Brown, but Culver is going to be a lottery pick. Stunning to think that no D1 school recruited him.
I was proud of our team for banding together and playing much better Saturday. I hope they can continue to get better and beat Baylor. I'm really wondering about Lard's future, though. Troubling to see him nailed to the bench Saturday.

Do you realize just how ridiculous those last two sentences are, put together? So it's on the coach to learn for the players? At what point do these guys take responsibility for their own growth?
Ultimately, yes, the coach is responsible for 18-23 year olds learning and improving. Tough job, without question.
I get the desire to blame it on the kids, and it certainly helps to recruit those that are hard working and quick learners. Better for the future of the program if it’s the kids. That way it’s just a one-off and next year will be different. We’ll see if that’s the case.
