Any interest in Austin Nichols from Memphis? Pretty good stats. Not sure why he's leaving Memphis yet

@GoodmanESPN: According to multiple sources, Memphis does not intend to release Austin Nichols.

What exactly would this mean?

Him and Williams from Missouri would be the two best options out there for us this entire transfer season IMO. Williams is obviously off the board

Id they don't release him, he either stays put or he has to pay his own way at another school.

I'm guessing he will eventually get released, otherwise Memphis is making a mistake and recruits will take notice. Who would want to go to a school that won't release you from scholly if you don't want to be there anymore?

I watched almost all his games last year, he would definitely be a great addition. Go get him, Prohm!

I still don't understand why, or how, a school can not release a player. Aren't scholarships yearly and not for 4 years (except for the Big 10)?

Memphis is denying his release? That's pretty ridiculous of Pastner and Memphis for doing so. Are they that butthurt that they want to force a guy out that doesn't want to be there? I hope he wins when he hires a lawyer and Memphis gets in trouble for this. I always knew when Pastner took over at Memphis that he learned how to be very shady from Calipari.

He'll ultimately get a release. I can see Memphis being upset and not wanting a player, especially their best scorer, leave this late in the offseason these are decisions that should be made in March/April. It could set a bad precedent for players who get mad at their coach/team/school impulsively decide leave up to September. Memphis could just be trying to stall his departure for a bit to recruit him to stay, but obviously after a week story breaking from his camp it just upset him leading to an appeal.

As for ISU chances, while I would like Prohm to reach out, I don't think there is a relationship to expect him to visit. Hopefully I am wrong and he's open to all schools and CSP works some magic. Memphis in response could spite him and restrict his transfer options which could improve ISU's chances once he is "released".

It seems to me he is looking for a chance at a championship not playing time and there is a lot of uncertainty in 2016 for the Cyclones. There are rumors he was regretting not originally choosing Duke during their championship run last year out of HS and I'd peg them as the favorite.

Duke has 8 players from last year returning and 5 recruits coming in. Who are they going to force out to give him a scholarship?

My educated guess would be the worst of those 13....

Not sure if Duke will do this, but to think a school is above doing this type of thing is pretty narrow minded. If it was like the NBA, with no personal relationships, I'd drop senior to be Marshall Plumlee, but obviously that won't happen.
