I’d be curious to know how many teams in the country outside of Ames have their 2nd leading scorer coming off the bench in March.
I know a few years ago West Virginia had their best player come off the bench. Can't remember the guys name

Just a quick refresher. Obviously no team is equal for each season, but the Irwin Center is a history of horrors for Iowa State. Our 2001 league winning team lost by 16 there don't forget.

We have a record of 2-14 in Austin since Texas joined in 1996. Average margin of loss: 12. Six losses of 15+. Three losses of 20+.

Fred won once there. Prohm hasn't won there. We've won 1 time in the last fifteen years.

Who cares? None of those teams were playing today. Our historic failures there don't excuse today. Irwin center isn't the Phog or Cameron Indoor. We were a slight favorite in this game and got run off the floor. The fact that teams lost there before our freshman players were born doesn't make it better. UT isn't a great team this year.

Silver lining today was clearly Conditt and to me it is much more than his production. What I love is a guy that got minutes early in the season, did fine, and hasn't played much with Lard back yet George has always been into the games, and clearly prepares well. Instead of getting down he was ready to take advantage of his opportunity. It seems like a little thing, but guys like that are huge in developing winning culture.

Not only is this a (cave garbage) hot take, but Prohm is a Catholic.

I don't even know what he's trying to say. Maybe it's a reference to that retired prof who wrote an op-ed in the Register because he didn't like Prohm's religion.

Neither is Iowa St, haven't been all season. They do have some great wins, but never have been consistent enough to be great. Or really even good enough to be confident that they would win on the road against another tournament team.

In a way, I wasn't even disappointed after the loss today. Why? Because none of it surprises me anymore. We can beat just about anyone if we're hitting our 3's and running, and we can get absolutely destroyed by just about anyone too because most of the time our guys have no heart, desire, or pride in themselves or ISU.... and only seem interested in going pro or something?

Just take Cam Lard for instance. He obviously doesn't give a rip about anyone but himself. He let all his teammates down, and all the fans that pay money to support this team. And at this crucial time of the season too. But it's nothing new for him.

And then all our guys just standing around and refusing to play defense, or rebound, and lazy on offense too by not passing to teammates and just launching bad 3's.

I still hope this team can play up to their potential in the NCAA tournament, but not holding my breath. If they get beat by an average team in the 1st round, I'll likely be like I am today.... not really even care because we should have all seen it coming. I'm pretty meh on the season now. Hopefully they can do something to get me excited again.

Sure, but rebounding and interior defense were not the real issues today.

You know that is just a generalization to try to make your opinion feel superior. It doesnt make someone an inferior fan if they feel Prohm is doing a bad job. Even if you don't agree with it. That is the point of a message board. It would be pretty boring if everyone had the same take on something

There’s a difference. I have no problem with people who are excited by wins and frustrated with losses, so long as they don’t go off the deep end. It’s those that are absent for wins and eager to throw shots after a loss.

You mean the 2-2 hot start in the conference? Basically this team has been up and down all year. People overreacted to the KU home win, which turned out to be nothing all that special. Today was extreme, but ISU has had some really good and pretty bad games spread out through the season. Prior to today our largest margin of defeat was in Dec. Our worst loss in terms of team strength is still Arizona way back in Maui. This team was BAD against Iowa. Very impressive wins in Jan and Feb.

I meant after we were in first or close to it.

The move I didn't understand was going to the zone for a few possessions in the second half.

What we needed was some tough extended man to man without switching. Unfortunately, I don't think we have a "lock down" defender to cover the hot shooter.

To be frank, I don't think Prohm teaches a tough man to man style.

They gave up 1.41 points per possession. We are now in the 50’s in defensive efficiency for Kenpom. They have lost their identity. We have a week to fix it.
They have definitely lost some confidence on both ends of the floor.
Best case scenario: They have a get right game against wvu. Play hard and well in Hilton on senior night, and get a win.
I really don't care about the Big 12 tournament, but ideally they get a good draw in the tournament, and they can feel rejuvenated to play a team outside of the conference. Hopefully it looks like the Ole Miss game.

Jacobson too. Why Prohm refuses to start our best players is baffling at this point. We get behind early and have to rely on Wiggy and Lard to get us back in the game. How about actually start those guys and build a lead for once.

We were up 16-7 with what I'm sure was mostly the starting lineup to that point in the game.

Can't blame today's game on a bad start, for once.

28 minutes in the game. Only Shayok/Halliburton played more. ISU was leading the game when he came in. Which coincidentally was when Bevo got hot from three.

Stop grabbing at straws.

Doesn't answer my question, next.

Who is going to "buy in" to a tough man-to-man style?
If I played defense for my high school squad like Horton-Tucker does, my coach wouldn't have given me a minute of playing time.

At this point I have no idea if this team loses all of their remaining games or runs the table and makes a deep run in the tourney, but it does not seem like they are playing their best basketball in March which should be the coach's goal.

Remember Lard isn't the first guy Prohm has had problems with. He couldn't get McKay in line either. I know its his team but I often wonder if he expects these kids to be eagle scouts all the time. That probably isn't going to happen. Prohm has to be able to work with kids who don't share his puritan morals.
