When I lived in S. Cal, my son had last period PE in high school - and it was conducted by the baseball coaches and was pure practice. Then during the season they had the additional practice AFTER PE. Those kids played baseball year-round and it showed in the skill level.

Yeah, I've heard that - another reason why most schools down South don't have wrestling...
We had wrestling, with 5 guys on the team and I think three of them were brothers that had moved from the midwest. It was the same time as weightlifting and they also competed at the lower weight classes in that...
I'm liking this class more and more every time I look at it. I checked out the rest of the Big XII North and we're not bad. Missouri and Kansas have a pretty good class, but we're pretty comparable to Nebraska and probably better than Kansas State in terms of # of stars. (I know, take those with a grain of salt.) I also think we're better than Iowa, but for whatever reason, they're class is ranked higher than ours.
It won't be top half of the Big XII by any means, but it is better than the expectations I had when the coaching change first happened.

Most of the time position coaches dont just recruit the positions that they coach, they are assigned geographic regions and recruit any positions in that geographic region
He was a standout LB at Pitt, coached linebackers at Temple, and might be a candidate for DC at ISU (just speculating). Pitt took a chance on Rhoads when he was a nobody at ISU so I'm thinking Rhoads might give a young up-and-comer like Bray a shot at DC.

AP is doing great, I agree. Valley is taking full advantage of their large school and larger budget. West Des Moines youth football has really amped up recently. I think that will improve Valley football in the future even more. Bettendorf and some of the Cedar Rapids schools seem to stand out as well.
BTW, how is AP doing lately recovering from the Tornado (if you know)? Any backlash from that in respect to athletics?
Due to their wild outpouring of support at home games, they are becoming a basketball only school.
If anything it's been the opposite. The town and school has rallied around the tragedy and really moving forward and succeeding well. The success AP has in regards to football, has a lot to do with Coah Thomas. He not only develops great athletes, but great people too. They excell both on and off the field. There is a great amount of pride in AP as a community and it shows in their student athletes.
Looks like some of the non BCS schools are really riding the momentum into recruiting... I think I saw something like a dozen of them ahead of us in the rankings with BYU, Utah, and TCU all in the top 50... The gap continues to narrow...

For my money, I think that Aaron Moore is going to be great. Additionally, I have high hopes for Donnie Jennert and James White.
On the whole, similar to last year, I am impressed by the athleticism of the class. I can't wait for some of these kids to get into our strength and conditioning program and start to bulk up.
Iowa State has a long road ahead of it, but despite our recent struggles, I think that we continue to add lots of talent. We have lots of reasons to be optomistic.

What has TCU done historically though? They're right smack dab in the middle of Ft. Worth. I would seem to think their ability to get talent is probably pretty high.

Actually, this year's class is looking much better than their typical class.

This is by far their highest rated class in quite a while.
