High school kids go right into minor league baseball. It would not be sustainable for colleges to perpetuate a system of unlimited eligibility.

I didn't expect Aaron Rodgers to make it back the the field at age 41 after his achilles rupture either. Then again, he's not a running back.

The second part is an interesting dilemma. It’ll be interesting to see if we can figure out how to limit transferring without really screwing over teams that lose their head coach, since they will potentially have a bunch of players leave without as many players available to backfill them. Although maybe there would still be plenty there, who knows.
It feels like some sort of buyout system for players that don’t end up transferring down a level may be helpful, but not sure.

Another interesting concept is copying the European soccer model with teams paying one time fees for access to sign players. Haven't seen a formal proposal, but on theory it makes sense for both parties!
I mean, the new coaches don't want the players left behind for the most part either. They want their guys.
99.9% of kids are committing to coaches, not schools.
I think the next thing is buyouts.
If you invest in a player, and then they transfer out as you need them as a starter…the new school should pay.

Agree. And you have to be careful when thinking about limiting the number in the portal at any given time. If your coach leaves and takes 30 players with him, you have to have a pretty big pool to draw from to replenish, even assuming your new coach brings a pool with him.
