You do realize that Kalen DeBoer took two or three defensive players from Sioux Falls (D2) to Washington, and they went on to compete for a national championship a few years back. Ole Miss’s quarterback also came from the D2 ranks at Ferris State. I’m not suggesting we’ll see that same level of production, but we also shouldn’t dismiss the possibility of these players competing successfully at this level.
If not might as well start raiding Drake and Grand View.

Sioux Falls? Is this a high school player?

The hard path is always going to give you the most satisfaction when you accomplish your goals. You go out and win a Natty in any of the 4 main sports at Iowa State and you instantly become LEGENDS!!!

I am pleased that Matt is now finally at ease with his situation. For his sake, I hope this is not the calm before the storm. Players do not magically get better by moving to Happy Valley.

Winning a "national title" anywhere isn't easy.

But in order to be in the hunt you can't lose to a team that had a winless conference record and get blown out in conference title games. It doesn't matter where you are, Penn State, Ohio State or Iowa State.

Sure you have to have some resources, but if that's all you're relying on, wouldn't the program with the most $s be national champs every single year?

Trey Pipkins is from Sioux Falls, been in the league 7 years.

I imagine the quote you refer to is the final paragraph in his ESPN interview: https://www.espn.com/college-footba...o-becht-transfers-penn-state-best-opportunity

“He also said he was excited to see his head coach, Campbell, in a new place. He said that they strived to win the national title at Iowa State, but it was a hard environment to compete at those highest levels.

‘We were listening to him talk yesterday, and something about him changed,’ Becht said. ‘He's got the resources and people behind him and a program behind him to do what he wants to do -- compete for a national championship.’"
Rocco forgot to mention the VERY favorable schedule - full of mediocre teams (at best). Even with a loss in the B1G championship, they should have a clear path to the playoffs. It makes me wonder - if Penn State's 2026 schedule included Oregon, Ohio State, a Jim Harbaugh-led Michigan team, Indiana, and even this year's Iowa team - would Campbell have made the coaching change? That version of the schedule would've made it harder for Rocco, et. al. to achieve this "better path" to the playoffs - even despite the playoff system's preference for mostly B1G and SEC teams. With the uncertainty surrounding Michigan's team next year & PSU avoiding OSU, IU and Oregon - they really have an easy schedule & that is why I believe Campbell made the coaching switch now.

As someone with deep connections to the NSIC in DII, the Sioux Falls take might be one of the dumber things I have heard. The NSIC is a great DII conference, which has produced a number of NFL players (Adam Thielen, Gunner Olzsewski, Trey Pipkins, C.J. Ham). Is the whole roster the caliber of Iowa State, of course not, but do a lot of these teams have 1-5 guys that can play Power 4 football? Absolutely! DII vs. DI or FCS, is more about did you get noticed in high school, where did you play. It isn't actually about talent, in all cases. But yeah, not a great take...

One of the biggest myths in college football media is that player ratings services definitively have the best players nailed down coming out of high school, when all they do is look at camp invites your sophomore and junior years of high school.

If you are a person who thinks that a star rating of a 16 year old defines whether they will be a good player or not you need to change your thinking.

Yes, they won the NAIA National Title under Kalen DeBoer in the 00's, and have been NCAA Division II in the NSIC since 2012. They play in a great conference and at a pretty high level.
