Does someone have the Rocco quote I’ve seen mentioned on X? I have no clue what they’re talking about.

I imagine the quote you refer to is the final paragraph in his ESPN interview: https://www.espn.com/college-footba...o-becht-transfers-penn-state-best-opportunity

“He also said he was excited to see his head coach, Campbell, in a new place. He said that they strived to win the national title at Iowa State, but it was a hard environment to compete at those highest levels.

‘We were listening to him talk yesterday, and something about him changed,’ Becht said. ‘He's got the resources and people behind him and a program behind him to do what he wants to do -- compete for a national championship.’"

The hard path is always going to give you the most satisfaction when you accomplish your goals. You go out and win a Natty in any of the 4 main sports at Iowa State and you instantly become LEGENDS!!!

I am pleased that Matt is now finally at ease with his situation. For his sake, I hope this is not the calm before the storm. Players do not magically get better by moving to Happy Valley.

Complete nothingburger. No idea why people are mad at him.

I've tried to be level headed about this whole thing but these kinds of comments really make that hard.

There's always been, and always will be some leg humping to media by any new arrival about how much they love being there. It happens here, too.

I think it blew up a little more at the time because the quote came out when Matt Campbell only had Iowa State transfers committed in the portal (like 17). So it's the same players getting paid more money. Getting the "resources" behind him would make one presume that Campbell's current players would not be good enough to win a national championship.

We have 51 guys in the portal. Doesn't it stand to reason we are needing 51 guys to replace them? We have 28 so far.

Only if the # of new 2026 commits is exactly equal to the number of graduates/players leaving for the draft. Outgoing transfers can be replaced with freshmen, too.

ETA - looks like we have 48 incoming based on the 1st post in this thread, with like 53 outgoing (if I counted correctly).

That includes the recruiting class though correct? So before this all happened we had 22 schollie kids in the recruiting class and not 51 players in the portal. Our current class appears to have 21 kids and we've got 28 portal guys. The 2026 class numbers are lining up but we're still 23 short of the portal entries, correct? In other words we had 51 outgoing portal guys and a slug of decommits. So the total number needed is about 70.
