***Official portal tracker thread***

News flash: We haven't been losing our best players every year since the start of the portal.

In fact we've done a great job at player retention. The "feeder program" hot-take needs to be shot into the sun because it's complete nonsense.

Do you watch the men's and women's hoops teams? You think those elite players play for free? Have you seen the talent JR's bringing in thus far? But I suppose every single one is giving us the infamous "home town discount." Which is another hot-take that needs to die.
I don't follow Iowa closely, but I noticed they typically didn't lose many to the portal either. I still believe that a lot of this portal insanity can be avoided with the right coach and environment. Gives me hope for the future that places like ISU can survive and thrive.

Seemed like ISU the last few years(2-3 offseason) wasn't losing starters in the portal. Typically guys deep in the depth chart or guys that were starters but lost their role to an up and comer. Maybe a hawk fan can shed light on what happened at Iowa, but their attrition seemed low as well.

SIAP. Love this quote that Busse got from Raynor. Chose ISU because Rogers is too impatient to rebuild

Sounds to me like Coach Jimmy has a plan and he is able to sell it to prospective players that the staff targets. Coach Rogers laid out a clear path to winning now for Raynor. I believe that it could reveal some of the quality of players that Iowa State has not yet announced. Players know if they have or are going to get the players needed to compete.

Do you factually know that those players were compensated far above their preceived actual value? Or are you just assuming they are?
Heck if I know. What is their actual percieved value? What are they being compensated? Everyone here is suggesting that they are getting more than they are "worth".

The point I am making is maybe being bought in and understanding and influencing the culture is worth more than just being a great ball player? Maybe, maybe not. It is possible that Matt is showing people that he values loyalty / being bought into the process? Who knows?

However, I believe that we need to get to the point where they players are employees (or something short of that), we compensate them accordingly, they sign contracts and we all understand what everyone is actually making. This vaugueness is just stupid and causes issues that you just don't see in the well run sporting leagues. We are already having to participate on a tilted playing surface where the opposition is not only in possession of / given more chess pieces, but the pieces' legal movements are undefined and constantly re-set by those with the most pieces.

It is a stupid situation and it should be fixed.

I think if the talent stayed at ISU and we played PSU’s schedule next year we could go 9-3, 8-4. They’re not going to be national championship contenders but they’re good enough for year 1 to build a foundation on. And some of

Moving sucks, and this guy has moved twice now in a year.

If he is anything like the down to earth, normal dude he seems to be I’d expect he is in Ames for life after dealing with that ********.
Moving sucks unless you are at the price point of making $5 million a year, then you call up the moving company, they pack and load it all up onto the semi, drive it across the country and then unpack everything you have. You only have to stand there and tell them where to put everything,

Every coach wants to win a NC and that is going to be very hard at school not in the P2 just because you will not have enough money to keep up. Maybe Tech has a shot by one guy bankrolling everything. That money helped them dominate the Big 12 but then get dominated by a P2 school. Unless something changes with the media money the Big 12 has a very slim shot to run through the playoffs.

Ok. I’m willing to accept that reality. But I’m not willing to watch a coach continue to have crap offensive schemes, mismanage the clock, and waste timeouts for 10+ years with no sign of improvement. Campbell could not reach Iowa State’s ceiling because of Campbell; the finances were not the issue.

I’m excited to see Rogers push this program to its actual ceiling, regardless of where it is. Because it’s certainly higher than what we’ve witnessed.

If I had his money would I donate lots of money to ISU? Yes.

Would I do it to the extent he does? No.

Billboard in NYC where nobody gives an eff about TT (or ISU)? Hard no.

Going on Twitter and acting like these are naturally occurring things and that I'm not paying out the a** for them? Another hard no.

There's a way to do things that don't make you look like a desperate loser trying to get people to like you.
Or is he trying to put a bold impression on young men who like this type of hype. Cody Campbell wants the top players in the country to think Texas Tech and know about the brand. Can you imagine what this guy is going to do for the TT team that wins TT its first Championship?

Here is an interesting addition to the transfer portal. TE/RB/QB from Ferris State University. 6'4 240 lbs. Looks like a cross of Ryan Koch and Stevo Klotz. I attached a link to this past season' highlights (quite entertaining). He has one year of eligibility.

I think every school in the Big 12 should be worried about that with the exception of possibly BYU. Unless you have a guy that was born and raised into that school like ASU and even he might get tired of just not having the money to keep up with the P2. We will see if Tech can keep up every year with the 1 donor who is trying.
And even BYU needed a Hail Mary to keep their coach. Not just a coach, but a Mormon and alumnus.

Agreed. I decided I will never move again unless paid for by my employer. The only stress is figuring out what to do with all that packing material later. Cause they will use a lot of it.
