Losing Hansen is obviously a bigger deal, but this sounds like cope, people were always way harder on Sama for some reason even though his YPC this year was the same as Hansen.
He was much better this year

Part of the issue is this is the Wild West. At least in pro sports, when free agent signs, the contract amount & length is public info.I have zero doubt that some of these "agents" are giving kids bad advice and they're clearly part of the problem here.
At the same time, I don't know that it's in their best interest to tell some kid making $X at ISU he should go in the portal if he's not reasonably certain he can get at least $X elsewhere. That is, of course, assuming said agent already has a relationship with the player.
You wouldn't eliminate Spring practice. It would be the same as it always was. You would have players who want to play at Iowa State. It's asinine for an 8 win team to not have a bowl game because we only have 17 players on the roster. You wouldn't have your new players until the summer. You would eliminate spring practice.
Not possible. I doubt Jimmy Rogers sits or stands still long enough for rot to settle-in.Or dare I ask. Has the rot settled in?
Too soon![]()
Agree it would be tremendously helpful because at that point the athletes know who is actually doing a good job, who has connections, who is giving good advice, etc.Part of the issue is this is the Wild West. At least in pro sports, when free agent signs, the contract amount & length is public info.
There needs to be structure and transparency, otherwise the bad actors are rewarded.
We are bringing in 3 star transfers and signing 3 star recruits. The only thing different is we would have 3 star recruits who want to play at Iowa State. Better than paying for academics, room and board and a state of the art training facility for players who don't want to be at Iowa State.Good luck with that. Do you ever want to win a recruiting battle again? People need to understand the players have the power. Any punitive act against them is not going to be viewed well by athletes as a whole and other schools are going to jump on it to recruit against you, it might feel good to exact some kind of revenge, but that is not how you play this
Correct, my reference was to the school, PSU, and not the coach.I thought franklins recruiting class followed him and he didn’t lose them.
I agree if he was the top paid player he was overpaid. Many players that were more important to our success. However, i think he was a good RB. His ypc was almost the same as Hansen and he had some nice games when Hansen was hurt. I think he was getting better at hitting the hole and will likely be better next year.Sama leaving doesn’t hurt at all. He runs east-west, and if there is no gaping hole, he’s a non factor. He couldn’t break tackles and had horrible runningback vision. If he was truly one of the top paid players, him leaving actually helps ISU and it explains why he got so much playing time. If it wasn’t for the KSU game when he was a freshman, no one would care he’s leaving.
Most of whom have already announced. There will be 15+ first day
So what? Add an extra week before fall camp to acclimate freshmen and transfers. You could still have spring practice for the team without them. You wouldn't have your new players until the summer. You would eliminate spring practice.
Yah because all their good coaches are here!!Neither are playing in it this year.
I’m not talking about 26’ recruit flips from WSUMost of whom have already announced.
The panic will set in if/when it takes a few days for the dust to clear and an actual roster get filled.
Or have spring practice in the summer. Kids getting pd should work for it all year nowYou wouldn't eliminate Spring practice. It would be the same as it always was. You would have players who want to play at Iowa State. It's asinine for an 8 win team to not have a bowl game because we only have 17 players on the roster.
2026 commit flip. WR from TexasWho is this kid ? Where from? ‘26 class?
It's just an incredibly short sighted and naive way of thinking. I understand the knee jerk desire, but you need to acknowledge reality, and stop acting like a jilted lover. If we only took guys who wanted to come to Iowa State we'd be at the bottom of the Big 12 more often than not. Such is the lot of a school in a small population state, in a less than sexy part of the country, with not much in the way of traditional success, and sharing recruiting territory with another power conference school. We are bringing in 3 star transfers and signing 3 star recruits. The only thing different is we would have 3 star recruits who want to play at Iowa State. Better than paying for academics, room and board and a state of the art training facility for players who don't want to be at Iowa State.
