IMO that would be giving the NCAA too much wisdom.

There is just too much dysfunction. The NCAA has no vision and is toothless. The Big 10 & SEC SCHOOLS want to sheet on everyone else.

Congress can't solve this problem, the universities need to create a group of Presidents, AD's, Coaches and Legal folks to create a structure that can withstand legal challenge.

I mean, aren't these universities supposed to employ really smart people?

The higher ups are very smart, but they are nothing more than greedy money grubbing bastards.

It's just an incredibly short sighted and naive way of thinking. I understand the knee jerk desire, but you need to acknowledge reality, and stop acting like a jilted lover. If we only took guys who wanted to come to Iowa State we'd be at the bottom of the Big 12 more often than not. Such is the lot of a school in a small population state, in a less than sexy part of the country, with not much in the way of traditional success, and sharing recruiting territory with another power conference school.
Punishing an athlete for doing something that is completely within the rules, and is done by hundreds and hundreds of athletes at other schools, comes off so ridiculously petty. If it came down to deciding between ISU and another school, all they have to say is "If you sign here, we don't think you're ever going to want to transfer, but if circumstances change and you think that's what's best for you, we won't hold it against you. ISU on the other hand, will pull your scholarship, boot you from your dorm, and ban you from the workout facility." Which option do you think is going to be picked more often?

Again, it's understandable to feel slighted when players leave, and you find out that they care less about Iowa State than you do, but you need to make your peace with it, because that's how it works.
The scholarship is irrelevant because the semester is over. The only thing that would be at play is facilities use.

My point is less about the specific action, and more about coming off petty and punitive. Not a look that any school wants, let alone one in Iowa State's position.
But even if pulling a scholarship IS irrelevant, then it's nothing but theater, anyway, and can only serve to make you look bad. There's no scenario where it makes your school MORE appealing to other recruits.

Yeah, you can’t pull scholarships or those type of things. I can see pushing them out of facilities to a point because you don’t want them around players that may not have decided to stay and bring in their ear. I can go back and forth on the facilities.
