He was okay over all. There can be no doubt he has the ability to electrify a game, i.e. K-State in the snow. I would love to keep him; however, not at the wrong price.Abu Sama leaving hurts! I wish him the best, but I was hoping he would stay.

This is a great question. And as a question, how can anyone offer a 'disagree' emoticon?Anyone wonder why we have so many more players bailing than all of the other teams that lost their coach (other than Oklahoma State)?
As I just mentioned one truly doesn't understand their own value unless they make themselves 'available'. Unless, of course, the rules are broken and they've been actively recruited by other schools. So, I understand why Rogers would re-consider those wanting to come back. The only problem is that, there's the risk of not being accepted back. But, hey, life carries consequences with our own choices.Rogers took several guys back last year at Washington St.
It has to change. In the past I always looked forward to the 6th win so we would be bowl eligible. The bowl game was a big deal and a goal to achieve. Move it back until after the bowl games and any player entering the portal is banned from facilities including the athlete dorm.Would it really be terrible to move the portal window back to early spring and effectively bar players from moving before the end of spring semester? Grant in aid for scholarship players runs through the end of spring semester already, just hold them to it. Make coaches moving before January 1 subject to an NCAA penalty. Even if they know where they are going. Just eliminate the chaos that ruins the end of the season the way it did ours. It is just incredibly short sighted trying to cram the entire portal period into two weeks. Many more players would find homes if there were time.
You have academic calendar issues. The playoff semifinal and national title games are WAY too late. That's why they got rid of portal window #2.It has to change. Actions have consequences.
Unless we get the "Curse of the Bambino" because we opted out of a bowl game. "The Curse of the Bowlbino." Just spitballin.I'm not implying a conference championship or 9 wins year 1 but I think a bowl game should be doable. Just saying we weren't that awesome individually, we did it as a collective of talent. Our NIL pool is closer to the elites than it's been since cfb started.
Stole him away from Tech. Nice.8,000 career rushing yard in hs. Only 13 kids in Texas have fine that.
Great analysis. No harm in seeing what your market value is (can’t believe I’m saying that), unless you don’t have open communication with current staff. Maybe there won’t be a scholarship waiting for you if you change your mind. This is a great question. And as a question, how can anyone offer a 'disagree' emoticon?
My repsonse...
- Players were tied more closely to the coach than the school
- Players have agents whispering in their ears that the pay is better elsewhere
- Players were informed of new schemes which they didn't like
- Players were informed their talents weren't at the level expected by the new coach
- Normal attrition due to young kids adapting to the difficult transition to college
- Players dipping their toe in the portal to determine 'value'. We do it in the real world. It's called submit your resume to other possible employers without your current one knowing.
Did I miss any?
You're scaring me with such talk......Unless we get the "Curse of the Bambino" because we opted out of a bowl game. "The Curse of the Bowlbino." Just spitballin.
Absolutism is not a good practice for anyone, especially a college coach in 2025. If TJ folllwed this philosophy, Jefferson would be gone and the ISU basketball team wouldn’t be undefeated and ranked 3rd.
F hope so! Flora, J Jackson, Peppers, & Francois would be a great foundation to build upon for the RB room.Rogers recruited Ryver Peppers when he was at SDSU, so we have a good chance to keep him in Ames too.
I think it is mainly 2 things, timing and tenure. How many schools that had coaching changes had coaches with the tenure that Campbell and Gundy had? Franklin...who lost his entire recruiting class and his team was playing like dog-poo was fired early and they had an interim coach that was kept on by the new coach. We did not have that luxury. Whittingham will be interesting to see, although everyone knew it was only a matter of time before the handpicked successor was given the keys. The plot twist is, no one had rather than retiring that he would sign a new contract with a blue blood in the B1G on their Bingo card.Anyone wonder why we have so many more players bailing than all of the other teams that lost their coach (other than Oklahoma State)?
Allowing that would set a pretty tough precedent, where every year there's no consequence for the entire team bailing to the portal. If the players are pros now you let them choose whether to stay or not and then move on. They can manage their own consequences.Great analysis. As for taking guys back. Coach is hired to win games. If those guys can help you attain that, you do it.
