Something that isn’t talked about a lot, but entering the portal doesn’t always mean that a player has definitely decided to leave. In some cases it means that they want to test the waters and see what kind of offers that they can draw vs what they’ve presumably been offered to stay. That’s a risk on their part, as there may not even be a spot to return to if it doesn’t go well, but a few may have a change of heart when they see what is really out there for them.

This is, of course true, technically. With a coaching change like this and what looks like a complete roster rebuild you have to wonder what kind of approach incoming staff takes with this.

I think people are going to be disappointed in what retention looks like for the Iowa States of the world with revenue sharing and NIL on top.

Any guy who is talented with an agent is going to be able to get PAID in the portal and there isn't a damn thing anyone outside the B10 or SEC can do about it in a lot of cases.

Campbell for example knows what every single guy was being paid. He can offer significant raises ISU can't compete with but he has PLENTY more to go around. Instant culture building with guys he has great evaluations on.
I agree. ISU needs to fully fund it's department rev share while also providing significant NIL to compete, or we will alternatively need to get used to the idea that the best players we find or develop will get plucked from the team every January.

This is the world we are now in.

This! Don't be surprised if a few guys don't get that Penn State offer they may be expecting. They haven't had many players hit the portal yet and Campbell doesn't really know what positions he will need to fill.

Honestly I thought we would keep a few starters that Campbell didn't want to take with him. There are still some starters that have not announced yet - Ebel, McLaughlin, Brezina, Patton, Neal, Hawk, Gilbert (DE), Sowell - have all started at least one game….
And don’t forget Buhr. I’m sure he’s on Ped St’ poach list, but it would be great if he stays.

I am sure Jamie would love to hear where you think we can get this money

Not this again. So you think a coach who recruited Iowa heavily up until last year going to WSU all of a sudden will forget his contacts and where schools are?
Jimmy might have contacts but will HS football players really know what Jimmy will have to offer in the new ISU.

My nephew's son is a 28 recruit with contacts from CMC, Iowa, NE and others. He has no idea who Jimmy is.

Did all the recruits that signed a couple days before Campbell left, back out or are a few still signed with us?
