Demoncore, thx for doing this. It's not easy.

IMO, the thing that matters most is whether the kids on the roster in August will match the system the coaches want to run.

As for the players, fit in a system means everything wrt playing time and making it to the NFL.

Until the current roster understands what the new system is, they should keep their options open; the only way to do that is to be in the portal.

Nothing prevents them from rejoining the team after hearing from other teams and meeting our new staff.

Don't know if anyone has said this yet, but I don't care about who has jumped into the portal or decommitted. I only want to know who is staying, transferring in, or newly committed.

I'll be supporting and cheering for the guys who choose to be Cyclones moving forward. I appreciate what the others may have done for the program, but I'm only interested the future.

People aren't putting enough stock in this.

Pullman is a nice place, but it is an outpost like you said. Ames is double in size and has Des Moines 35-45 mins away. KC, Omaha, Minneapolis all 2.5-3.5 hrs away. Chicago & STL 5-6 hrs away. There is a much bigger pool of talent in the midwest for him to recruit.

Tacoma & Seattle are 4.5 hours away from Pullman. Spokane 1.5 hours away. Boise 5.5 hours away.

Martin Stadium is nice. Jack Trice Stadium is better (and nearly double in size 32k to 63k)

WSU has a good fanbase (anyone who went to Alamo Bowl 2018 knows this.) Iowa State is crazier and bigger in numbers.

Iowa State has better facilities, not even a question. WSU was unfortunately left basically in a G5 conference after the P5 Pac 12 dissolved. Iowa State is still very much safe in a P4 Big XII conference.

Iowa State has 3-4x the NIL recruitment budget that WSU has.

Coach Jimmy Rogers will have so much more to work with. If he can construct a team replacing 70 players to a place like Pullman and go 7-6, there is NO reason to believe he can't be at least as successful at Iowa State.

We don't have the warchest of resources overall to compete with PSU (clearly) but ISU is far from poverty and sitting better compared to most CFB programs out there.
The hard part of all this is we were told we built a place where kids turned down more money to play at Iowa State.

That was the culture we as fans helped MC build…

Now we find out we financed MC building a team loyal to him that would sell out with him for more money.

And we rightfully feel kicked in the nuts by that.

BUT I’m fully on board with JR. It’ll be new names…but I think we’ll like the results.

We have 23 players in the portal, to my knowledge, to Penn State's 6. I was thinking that Campbell is such a genuine guy that a lot of Nittany Lions could end up staying put, which is potentially good for us. Most of our top players have left, and a few more will go, but there's a chance we can hang on to a few. It would be nice to retain some younger guys that have potential, and hopefully a few experienced upperclassmen to lead the team.
It is a whole different dynamic when the outgoing coach was not meeting expectations vs the outgoing coach setting a new ceiling for the program. I agree that retaining younger guys would help tremendously as we have a lot of guys who were the next Cyclone stars already on the roster, and I'm hopeful that we can retain a lot of them as their timetables in many cases just got moved up.

Nah, give the man his due. He was a guy who players wanted to play for, for less money than they otherwise could have gotten. With him moving on, the situation changed.

You guys are missing the point. That washington state team had a 2 million dollar budget and its first year ever with the pac 12 completely dissolved so much uncertainity and basically regulated to a g5 conference and he had to RECRUIT 75 new players was hired after the portal already opened and took that team to 7 wins with 2 extremely close loses to playoff teams at their home field and another to a top 25 virginia team.

We have 15 million dollar budget in a stable p4 league. We are going to be just fine. We are going to keep some good players and depth. We are going to hit the portal in a much less uncertain and positive situation and we are going to compete and honestly I think we are going to surprise a lot of people and clearly a lot of those people are in our own fanbase. But for gods sake lets not make it harder on our coaches who choose to be here and lets support them !

We have a bunch of coaches who know what it takes to win national championships which is hard at any level. Now they have a better resources and selling points to get better talents and with championship habits lets see. Im really excited to see what they can do and this might be just the change we needed to finally get over the hump. Who knows but whats the point of thinking anything else?
But the sky is still falling.

Kidding. I like your post and agree.

Wait till these kids hit reality with a day job paying 75K ... or far less. Nobody fawning all-over them. Can't leave company after a year for a bag of money. Boo fuc*ing HOO!

Well that's why they're getting the better money now and you just described the working world as it is anyway.

The good part is that those who are staying are committed to Iowa State. I don’t hate Rocco and others for leaving. But don’t try to feed us the “Forever a Cyclone” BS. You’re literally kicking us in the nuts trying to feed us that crap. Just say you are grateful for the fans support. Stop the Forever a Cyclone ******** as you quit being a Cyclone.

I tend to be a literal person. So, at best the phrase would go, "Forever partly Cyclone". Which is probably just better left unsaid.

Well, in Rocco’s defense he did earn a degree from ISU so he is a Cyclone forever.

Will he be a Cyclone this fall when he is playing football? So he is not a Cyclone forever. He is a Cyclone Alum and a former Cyclone. But only those who finish their careers at Iowa State will be Forever Cyclones. Rocco is trying to have it both ways. Go. But don’t expect me to stroke your balls.

I could listen to your post and see your points until the last line...I don't think any of these guys are asking us to do this. Could they understand our disappointment, frustration, and even anger? I bet they do...Being appreciative and empathetic to us is not what many seem to think the players are asking us to do. I see this response as player and I would actually say to those fans..."stroke this".

I am going to reserve my ultimate accolades for those who stayed. They are the loyal sons forever true. At this difficult time Rocco and others are leaving and it is hurting the program. Their ultimate loyalty is not to Iowa State. I have loyal Cyclones to cheer for. Forever true.

That's cool but there's also the reality that players may not have gotten much for offers from elsewhere that was interesting or paid enough so they just decided to stay put.
