Lol. Sorry. Typo. Omit the word "don't"
That's better. I had a small stroke trying to read that before. Dak has definitely fallen back to earth since his first season.

Yeah. It's not that he's terrible, but I think that oline and running game cover up a lot of inadequacies. That's better. I had a small stroke trying to read that before. Dak has definitely fallen back to earth since his first season.

I think the Cowboys and their fans love Dak at $700,000 a year. I don't think they'll love him nearly as much at 25 to 30 million per year.
If they are smart they let him test the market if he wants that kind of money.
Of course I'm no Cowboys fan so I'm ok if they aren't that smart.
It's a tough spot for them. It's really hard to find a QB who's competent, let alone a top tier franchise player. And they've been pretty successful with him, and he's exactly the kind of player you want to reward.
But - like Janny said, the team's o-line and running game cover up a lot of warts in his game. If you can't get him at a bargain deal then it restricts your ability to spend on other areas of the team to help him. When a QB gets a big money contract, the expectation is that he'll be able to cover up a team's weaknesses just by virtue of being one of the best at his position.
With Prescott and the Cowboys I think it's the opposite at work. Because they're getting competent QB play at a bargain basement price it has allowed them to spend elsewhere. But when those funds are tied to Dak it'll be on him to raise his game, and I don't think he'll be able to. He's not the only Cowboy with a new contract coming soon - Zeke is forcing the issue now, Amari Cooper is on deck, Jaylon Smith is a restricted free agent after the season, and Byron Jones has been making noise about wanting a new deal too. Can't pay 'em all.
It will be interesting to see what kind of money he asks for and what they, and other teams, are willing to pay. There's always someone willing to gamble on bringing in a new QB.
If I had to guess I'd say Dak's camp is looking for 30-32 million per year and the Cowboys are wanting to be more in the neighborhood of 25 million per year.
What might make sense for Dak and the Cowboys is to push for a short term deal that allows him to get paid now with a middle of the pack yearly average and a chance to hit the market again and cash in in 2-3 years if he proves himself as an elite starting QB.
@AdamSchefter: The record breaking $100M deal that WR Michael Thomas & the Saints have agreed to includes $61M in New Guaranteed Money, which is the most in NFL history for a Non-QB offensive player. This massive extension was negotiated by @DavidMulugheta and Andrew Kessler of Athletes First.
