NBA: ***Official NBA Draft and Offseason Thread***

After a few days reflecting, it has became more and more evident what this Cavs team was missing. It was missing heart. It was missing grit. It was missing defense. It was missing diving on the floor. It was missing full court press. It was missing a leader. It was missing DELLY! I knew it was a horrible decision not to pay him. Should have traded Love for a top 10 pick last year smfh.
Not having Delly is not what the Cavs were missing.

Pretty sure defensive metrics aren't favorable to delledova that was a myth.

as a lakers fan I feel this draft is going to be is going to be like 03 and Im praying we dont end up with Darko. I feel we have to take ball.

I think it will be Ball but it would be intriguing if they grabbed Josh Jackson who would be a good fit with their team too. Assuming Boston plan is getting Jackson at 3 it would throw the entire draft for a loop.

This by the most intrigue heading into a NBA draft in years. Thursday should be fun.

I don't think Boston would have moved down if they didn't have a couple guys they'd be OK with taking at 3 if the Lakers take Jackson. Although it's hard to see them going with Ball since they never got a chance to work him out.

Smart move by the Celtics. Get Josh Jackson at 3 and a future 1st

Agree completely. In general, in most drafts of any kind, I'm someone that believes strongly in moving down and accumulating picks, but especially in this case.

I think Boston really wants Josh Jackson and he'd fit their team better. Most likely they will still get him, plus pick up some more picks, so why not do it.

My only confusion is why the Celtics would want Jackson since they already have Jaylen Brown. You definitely can't play them together. At this point anyway.
I think Brown will be a good player, but it's not like he's an established NBA player.

Good move by Philly, they get the best player in the draft and will still have a first round pck next year.

Maybe they're getting ready to include Brown as part of a trade package for a superstar.

Woj reports that pg13 told the pacers he's leaving next year to likely go to the lakers

Worst kept secret in the league. The Pacers are caught between a rock and a hard place. The Lakers aren't likely to give up much if they know they're the frontrunner to sign him after next season. Why give up assets now for a guy who you know wants to join your organization next summer?
And the only teams who would want him for a one year rental are teams in extreme win now mode, so...Cleveland? But the Cavs don't have any assets for a rebuilding team like the Pacers will be once they deal PG, plus I don't know where they'd find the cap space to bring him in without moving Kevin Love. It'll be a miracle if Kevin Pritchard can get a deal where he isn't getting 25 cents on the dollar.

In basketball I would disagree, to really win in the NBA you need superstars. You don't win titles without them, with only very rare exceptions. Your odds of getting a superstar are much higher with the top pick. That's really what the 76er's Process was all about, acquiring assets over and over to find one or more superstars. If they feel like Fultz is on the superstar level, then it's a no brainer to use those accumulated assets to go get him.

I think that's the way to go, especially now with the possibility that Lebron James bolts for LA (I don't think it will happen, but if he does then just like that Boston's biggest obstacle is out of the way).

But just for ***** and giggles, say Danny Ainge gets word that Anthony Davis wants out of New Orleans before the draft next week. How much would it take to pry the Brow out of New Orleans? The first pick this year plus players? The first pick this year plus the right to swap picks with the Nets pick in 2018? All of the above? A core of IT, Bradley, Crowder, Davis, and Horford...is that enough to take the next step?

Edit: I know I'm essentially ignoring league rules and salary cap implications. This is just for kicks.

Oh, if you think a deal for Davis is on the table, you move heaven and earth to make that happen. That's totally different than George or Butler, imo.

Yeah, that's really more of a football thing where you need all 53 guys on your roster. It doesn't make as much sense when you just need 9-10 guys to play in the NBA.

Jaylen Brown is no reason not to pick Jackson. Brown is a role player. Jackson is a potential All Star.
