Oh yes, i must have missed in the site rules that all of a sudden when we win things must be sunshine and rainbows. I'm happy about the win as everyone else, but its just dumb to ride the rollercoaster and go all overboard (some of the posts about getting to the NIT or multiple conference tourney wins when Gmac has yet to get one). Just as some go overboard after a loss, those who who go overboard after a win are no better. The only difference is, after a loss, those who go overboard arent on here telling everyone who disagrees with them they need to 'shut up' and 'only post negative thoughts'

Also, hate to break it to you but this game also marked the end of the regular season, a time where its also fair game to look back and evaluate the season. As i recall, this was *exactly* when some of the gmac lovers were saying 'lets wait till the end of the season to evaluate' when we started losing. Now that we end the season with a win we're supposed to suddenly forget what we watched for 3 months?

Tell that to KG, he has been getting killed. Hell, I have been getting killed and I feel that I have been pretty neutral. I have posted a few positive facts and gotten ripped. The bolded statement is not true and I think you know that.

No, he's serious. We are something like 8-104 All-Time. It's not that big of a deal really. Orr Floyd and LE did it all the time.

8 times in 100+ years of basketball. Hmmm I'd say that is about averaging 1 every 12 years or so. I think GM might be 8 years ahead of schedule.

Theres a big difference between people disagreeing with you, and people outright saying you shouldnt be posting what you're posting.

The fact still remains that anyone who has shown support of Mac this season has been ripped. This goes both ways. If you were to say last week that Mac should be given another year you would be hammered.

First and foremost let's say congratulations to the players. They had every reason in the world pack it in, and they came up with a performance like this.

It is a testament to the leadership that Craig and Diante give, and the toughness of Scott. We need to give a special atta boy to the kids that have been in trouble. Laron left it all on the floor and Chris was tough (other than getting beat back door from the top of the key).

I am sure that the first thing that Greg will tell anybody is that he was happy for the kids. They deserved this. It may not make up for the disappointment of the season, but it is something they can look back on and take great pride in.\

Let's also give the coaching staff a hand. They kept this group together. The way the Missouri game ended, there is no reason to think that this group should have anything left. The fact that the staff picked them up and got them ready to play that way against a team that physical is a testament to the trust this group has in them.

Ham get on the floor (sorry just had to say that).

I don't know what this game means in the big picture. I do know that it should make Pollard's announcement a bit easier to take. It doesn't change any of the mistakes made, but it is something to point to as a positive.

We will have to wait and see who comes back next year. So I don't know what the future will hold, whether it will be positive or not. But this is a big win for this staff, and it is the first thing that they really have to sell on the road.

As far as Kansas State goes, they showed how inconsistent their offense is. Worse than that, they lost the number one seed today. Isn't that ironic. The biggest win of Greg's career, and he screws the conference.

Good job Greg. Let's see if we can build on this win. I don't think it has any bearing on the UT game, but at least this team can walk around for a few days feeling good about themselves.

Great win. I'm so happy for the team. Beating #5 when they had lots to play for (Home, Senior night, NCAA seed, last home game of the season) is huge.

Anyone who has used the line that they that we have no quality wins against ranked teams now needs to write a simple post and acknowledge that we do. No other comments, just acknowledge the change in this particular fact. If it was worth saying when we didn't have a quality win, it is worth saying now that we do.

So you didn't say earlier something along the lines as "a blind squirrel can sometimes find a acorn"? How is that giving credit again to a coach??? Again let it go and disappear for another half hour.

Let me be crystal clear for you.

I personally think that the coach of a college MBB team has about as much control over his situation as just about anyone that is employed by another person can have. Therefore, I think coaching...and all that entails...recruiting, motivating, gameplanning, etc....should be given the credit for both the successes and failures. They don't pay people seven figure salaries to oversee a situation that is all about luck.

I will tell you that I am pretty impressed that we have continued to battle here at the end of the season and not just "mailed it end"...and, yep, I give the coach credit for that. Of course, you can also see that with our record, it is quite possible that some of the better teams are not taking us as seriously as they might a higher level team...this is human nature. But again, it is our effort that the coach controls with our team...and that seems to still be there when we are really not playing for anything at this point (save for maybe the draft status of some).

Having said that, you cannot look at one game and make any concrete assessment from that one event. With McDermott we have four years to look at...and frankly, it does not look very good. After the great win last night, people come on this site and say, "see, see, see, GM is a good coach, this is evidence". Sorry, but looking at his four years, this is a statistical anomaly...hence the "blind squirrel" comment. This sort of win happens in year one, year two, hell even last year you might have a different take on it but we are at the end of year four here. I also love the rationalization about how "close" we are to having a much better record...that cuts both ways...you can look and say look at all these close ones we have lost...but you can also look and say the same thing about a bunch of close ones we have won...ultimately, you are who your record says you are.

Unfortunately, one quality win where you go 4-12 in conference means nothing...go ask Georgia...they have several quality wins.

But guess what, ISU is going to get a bunch of recognition from this win because every time they show the K-State resume it is going to say "Bad Losses - Iowa State".

Toasted and cyclonenum1,

given out too much rep today, but 100% with ya. But let me just say that I for one am not saying that this prove MAC is a good coach. I think he is, but nothing here proves that. It just shows what he's capable of when he isn't taking punches to the nads.

Like I said I think he will be a good coach, won't yet declare him such. I also won't declare him a bad coach. Let just hope he can make his own luck next year.

You're right. The magnitude of a specific win varies, and I'm glad you brought up the "year 1, year 2..." factor.

It was a nice feeling to win at KSU, especially after soooo many missed opportunities this season, and taken in isolation, it had the feel of that football win at Nebraska (minus the 32-year streak thing) — winning "ugly" on the road despite roster factors (starters out in NU game/foul trouble in this one). Not an exact comparison but they have similarities.

Difference is, the NU came in Year 1 for Rhoads, GM's at the end of Year 4. Rhoads can't ride the NU upset indefinitely, but that's how a coach builds cred a little bit at a time. That's why the "when" can make a difference.

If GM's second year went the way this one did, and the team finally broke through with this sort of win, you could say, "yeah it took longer than we would prefer, but he's going to get there." Right now, it just seems like a great win that might not be duplicated for another 3 or 4 years.

Could very well be right, but I at least offer the possibility that it is something that could be duplicated if we can continue more than 5 games without the rug being pulled out from underneath the program.

I'm in no way saying that we should all be drinking the "this changes everthing koolaid," but it at least opens the door to the possibility that when the wheels aren't falling off, the cart CAN move in the right direction. Both sides are taking this largely in stride, but there are a few extremists. But really this win changes very little, but it makes it much more comfortable, allowing for still more patience.

I also want to be clear. I do not think this win means anything as far as future success. All I mean is that the fact that this team continues to play hard is ONE positive for Mac and it shows me the team is compelled to play for him. That is all. Nothing more, nothing less.

This game COULD mean more but it does not yet.
