Can you name for me a coach at a BCS school who started out 4 - 20 (I'm going to leave out the 1aa schools...) and went on to build a good program?
Easy Answer. NOT ONE TIME. EVER
Others team do it. We never take a slant to the house. EVER.
We did it 3 times today, not just once. And we also ran a 7 yd out on 3rd and 10. WHY?
Furman would have lost 80-0 today.
So, if you paid ME $10 million a yeat, that should automatically mean that we are undefeated? Again, the logic doesn't follow.
Arnaud threw a 30 yd pass on a rope today. I am not sold that he was hurt. He under threw a couple passes but they were into the wind.
Another play call complaint. That quick pass to the RB. IT has now been tipped more times than it has been caught. Coachces!! We don't know how to run that play, so don't run it. Against Kansas we ran the quick pass to the WR. INT. We ran it at the end of the game against them again and it was almost another INT

All you calling for a new coach...when and if that happens down the line (years not games)...who the HELL do you think we're going to get? We hired the hottest assistant coach prospect in a number of years and he can't win here. McCarney won here 3 years out of 12 and they almost named a building after him. Nobody is going to want this job. We lucked out that Pollard sweet talked Chizik (no matter how good a coach you think he is).
We're better off giving him AS MUCH time as possible (just like Mac) and hoping for the best. 2009 is a crucial year, obviously.
I'll repeat in simple terms...do you really think a quality coaching candidate is going to want to risk his ENTIRE career on coming to Ames? Good luck.
The three yard slant plays were blitz reads-hot recievers. Arnaud unloaded it with 2+ defenders in his face. Frustrating -yes, unfortunatley it's understandable.
Will Chizik and his staff get the job done? I have no idea. Way too early to tell. Keep in mind we are playing freshmen and sophomores all over the field and those recruiting classes were ranked LAST IN THE CONFERENCE BOTH YEARS. Even talking about dumping Chiz right now is just silly in my opinion. Regardless of who the coach is winning at ISU will always be a process.
30-25-1 is the highest winning percentage in Iowa State history. That coach never won a bowl game at ISU. He went on to an outstanding career at Pitt and Tennesee.
Two years ago pundits and fans alike were CLAMORING for Mark Mangino's head. What a difference a year makes.
Gary Pinkel was one game away from being terminated at Mizzou and then he upset South Carolina in some minor bowl. What a difference Chase Danial makes.
Patience isn't always fun but i don't see another choice for us. Winning is difficult at this level. Very difficult.

Furman would have lost, but their D would have held. Interesting how these threads were calling for next year... last year! Also, I got a lot of jeers for defending LJ on this board. I'm no football expert, but I'm just calling it like I'm seeing it... and I'm frustrated! Who wouldn't be? Maybe Chizik will wake up if he reads this.
Your second line says it all; its a capability of other teams that we don't have (hence my second, or was it third point) aka we don't have two, three, or even four speedsters that can break it. Then again; I didn't expect Robinson to go for 67 today and outrun a lot of people.
I think it's also a reflection, much like my last point, that we have a more-simple playbook because well, we're young, not super speedy or with great game-breakers, and thus, we are conservative.
I REALLY liked the 10-yard outs we ran versus KU in the first half; what happened to those? If they start pressing, go long once in a while. It opens up the running game or keeps the 10-yard outs open.
In answer to your last question...I think the same thing. Why run a 7-9 yard pattern when 10 will do?
One word: inexperience and youth.
Only once was there somebody in his face on those quick slants. A couple times they only brought 4 guys.
I was asking myself the same questions. Not a lot of YAC today so if we're 3rd and 10 and we're going to pass it we should throw it past the first down instead of settle for 4th and 3 all the time.
No, it means that if the University is going to pay somebody over a million dollars, they should provide results. People keep talking about next year like some magical turnaround is going to find us in a bowl.
We played bad teams last year and lost. Everybody said a year of experience will take care of that, but we played bad teams this year and still lost. What makes anybody think we are going magically be able to beat the bad teams on our schedule next year? God bless those that have faith, but I need to see some kind of progress, and it isn't there.

We run a WR screen to Summeral no more than twice a game, I think i counted 5 times today
We run at least two pass patterns in every play that will actually get us the first down
WE STOP THAT STUPID LOOKING TO THE SIDELINE THING FOR AUDIBLES!! It gave the officials time to challenge one play today, which ended up not mattering, but still pissed me off greatly. It also caused a delay of game penalty in the fourth quarter. Lets play with the confidence that the defense should adjust to us! And lets throw Barney Cotton's playbook out the window while we're making these changes.

All around a **** poor effort today. Came out flat again. Got great starting field position at least twice in the first quarter. Got nothing. 2 freaking first downs in the first half. Basically no passes went further than 5 yards past the line of scrimmage in the first half.
kNebraska's secondary is god awful and we did NOTHING to try to expose it. Austen only loaded up one time to try to throw deep in the first half but didn't even get the pass off as he waited way too freaking long to get rid of it.
The defense may as well have just stayed on the sideline in the first half. Nebraska moved the ball like they weren't even there. You ever see Coach K bring in 5 subs at a time to replace all of his guys on the court because of poor effort? I don't care who our second stringers are, they should have subbed the entire unit about halfway through the second quarter just to try to send a message to these guys.
No pressure on the quarterback. Receivers running across the field wide open. D-linemen not understanding that when the offensive linemen release them quickly it means a screen pass is coming. Its just abysmal defense and surprising that it could happen under the watch of a defensive coordinator that was so successful.

Even when they were calling for Magianno's head he owned ISU. Has ISU ever had a big win like Nebraska did today? Not even against 1aa teams... This is why we need an unknown. Traditional coaches who are used to coaching 5 star players aren't going to do well at ISU.
FYI, Barney Cotton's playbook scored 35 points on us today.
