Two years is way too early for another change.
However, if we don't make a bowl game next year I will be extremely disappointed. 3-1 and 3-5 (6-6) should not be this difficult.

I don't think that ISU played as well as it can. Are you telling me that 45 yards in the 1st quarter and giving up 21 (almost 28) is the best effort? If that's the case then its worse than I think.
you talk like the guy has some standard to live up to or some tradition to keep .. you make it sound like we contend for the north title year in and year out .... its isu football we've always been a bottom feeder, this isn't nebraska who fires a coach who wins 9 games .... have you noticed that most of our starters are freshman or sophmores who have only playing experience from this year ... our time will come .. when? time will tell but like has already been said .... there's no where else to go but up ....
There is plenty of "blame" to go around, but the simple fact is we have a limited football team. We're still far behind other teams in terms of physicality, in terms of football talent and in terms of speed. Coaching has to take some crap as well, but the deal is we are competitive with the Kent States and UNLVs of the world but we are NOT a B12 team yet. We are slower than all the other B12 teams, smaller than all other B12 teams and MAYBE younger than all the other B12 teams. We need a major upgrade all across the board but we are only seeing a glimpse of the talent that Chiz has brought in (Darks, Sed, LJ, TB....) but these kids need some weightroom time to really develop. If anyone doesn't think it takes TIME for kids to develop is nuts.

Our coaches are not very good right now. Actually they are very bad. When we have 3rd and Long and we run 3 yd slants, you can't help but wonder if they know what they are doing.

There is no tradition. But why pay $1.1 million to be even worse? I agree with you that it can only get better. This team is better than the past two games. I don't think that ISU would have a win at all if every game was played like the last two. THAT is coaching. I do think that ISU can think about big things in the next couple of years. However, I don't see that happening with this coach. I hope that he proves me wrong.

You've got to be kidding me.
Look at what we start; how many sophomores, redshirts, etc? We have a kid we don't want to burn a redshirt on, thus we really only have one quarterback, a defense that is STILL trying to find itself for four quarters (besides Jesse Smith, a lil hometown kid representing there), and playing in what now many, including those at ESPN that LOVE the SEC, the toughest conference in the nation.
We aren't supposed to be good; we weren't picked, nor did many expect, us to win many games. Iowa we wanted; KU we let slip away. We get those two back and there are the four wins many of us expected; five or six was a dream for a lot of people (at least the realists).
The Baylor loss sucked, and today felt like a punch in the gut.
But reading these boards makes it sound like DMac is back at the helm and people want results NOW and want him out NOW.
Must I remind you that these are 18-22 year olds, and some of the posters on here are judging results on what, 22 months of coaching?
Get real people; this isn't a sprint, this isn't OK or UT or even BYU. We're trying to build here, trying to get something going.
Give the guy four recruiting classes. Then we'll talk about real change.

Is anyone excited to play football on this team? That first half, when the game was on the line, was so troubling. Jamie is asking us as fans to deliver more in terms of $$ and support. I will, but then don't present this crap football for me to watch...
That seems remarkably contradictory, since we're only going to have the same coach for the next two years.
Someone tell me, with a young offensive line, this is how many different starting units we've used? And Knapp still isn't back yet?

I am out of town so I can't call it but somebody needs to ask Chizik on Monday what they are trying to accomplish. It is becoming obvious they don't have a gameplan and if they do it is really poor.

I love Pollard. I love the Chizik hire. I really love McDermott. All 3 were the right hires at the right time.
That being said, the brutal hard truth is...the 2009 football season is the telling point of Pollard's tenure at Iowa State. Fact.

Well, I'm a diehard ISU fan and want to see them win. I also think that Chizik is a terrible coach. I really want him to prove me wrong. But I think that the results speak for themselves. Even a team like Furman would probably be doing better with a lot less talent. Chizik is not the only first time head coach at a new program... For what he is getting I don't think that it is too much to expect better results.
I agree with both of you, but you guys do realize that by arguing with this dolt the way you are you're just fueling him on? We've learned from the past that arguing with trolls makes them worse, perhaps if we ignore this one he will go away (and I know it's tough, cuz I'd like to lay into this dolt myself, but honestly, he/she just isn't worth my time)...
Third and fifteen...maybe not. And that is only one play; BUT, how many times have you seen a five yard slant turn into twenty, or thirty? Maybe taken to the house? It's not a terrible call.
Personally, I like those slants on first and second downs; guaranteed yards, easy pitch and catch (as long as the line is blocking) and there are opportunities to take it all the way.
I think we're seeing the play-calling reflect what really we have known all along: we're young, we can't put in a super-complex playbook, and we don't have five or six guys with 4.4 speed. That combination lends itself to a more-simple playbook, with plays that are eas(ier) to run, with not as much room for mess ups.

I want to add that I think Chizik CAN be a good head coach. I really believe that, but HE HAS TO GET BETTER. Just like he expects players to learn the system and get better, he does as well. Team has only gotten off to one good start this season, they make silly mistakes, and look out of place many times.

I'll flat tell ya that this football team played as well as it can...the results speaks for itself...
U-have to credit Nebraska they are a great football team who is starting to win on the road ...If Chizik and ISU are ever gonna win at least at home, they are gonna have to play better than they did today...Like I said ISU is NOT a GOOD FOOTBALL TEAM RIGHT NOW!!
