27-17 Tulsa... at 20-17 ISU has a chance to tie it with a 35 yard FG, and well we all know the outcome of that kick... With 3 minutes left Tulsa scores again on a 60 yard run... F

ISU wins the toss and takes the ball. First play from scrimmage is a bubble screen and to everyone's surprise Bundrage gets a couple of blocks and is off to the races only to start his celebration early as he drops the ball prior to breaking the plane of the end zone. This is the last time ISU crosses midfield for the rest of the game.

Trey Watts breaks the all-division NCAA record for rushing yards in a game with 457 yards on 32 carries while scoring 6 touchdowns.

Tulsa 49
ISU 0

Postgame prediction: In the postgame presser Messingham blames ISU's embarrassing offensive effort on SR for not making enough plays, blames the offensive line for not blocking, blames Jim Cantore for the weather which obviously limited ISU's offense and adversely affected his play calling, blames Musco Lighting for making the lights so bright in Tulsa's stadium that he couldn't read his play sheet so he actually didn't even know he called a record 47 bubble screens in a row, blames Paul Rhoads for hiring him, blames Mike Leach for creating too high of expectations for the spread offense, blames Cy for distracting him during his pregame prep work, blames ISU fans for hurting him emotionally which made him call the wrong plays over and over, blames Nike for making their polo shirts fit too tight so he couldn't focus on dialing up the right plays which caused ISU to go 0-15 on 3rd down conversions, blames Gillette because he nicked the edge of his mustache while shaving Thursday morning and it took away his play calling super powers, blames Baylor for scoring too much so there are no points left for ISU, etc....

I'm worried that Watts will have a Mark Weisman type day against us, but if our offense plays just a bit better than they have so far this year, they can withstand efforts like that.

Weisman averaged only 4.3 yards per carry. Granted, there were 35 of them, but that isn't horrible containment.

All in all, I just can't bear a repeat of last year's Memphis Bowl, where Watts and Green ran all over the place and our offense sputterd and stuck in the mud repeatedly. Sadly, I can envision such a scenario happening again.

My inner-optimist fan is telling me that the offense will have improved, the defense will be healthy and re-invigorated by the off week, and Iowa State wins it 34-20. My realist fan tells me we experience a repeated performance of the bowl game and lose 34-17.

I really do not believe Tulsa is quite as good this year, though. Oklahoma put a pounding on them a few weeks ago.

CPR goes balls to the wall and comes out like a gangbuster.

Chanse Creekmur lines up at QB in a 5 wide, "basketball on grass", Joe Tiller-esque aerial assault that finds 9 yard curl routes and numerous skinny posts abound.

Wally pulls out the witchcraft and instills an 11 man stand up D based on heavy corner blitzing, a 2 man front, and a little bit of luck.

Tulsa has no answer. ISU 27 Tulsa 24

20-16 Good Guys.

We get 8 possessions in the game, 2 TDs, 2FGs.
A long TD pass to Coleman
A long run by Wimberly
A missed 38 yard field goal by Arceo wide left, followed by 2 makes by Netten.
Offensive play calling is still horrible, but the kids score by pure will.

Defense gives up a ton of rushing yards, but is able to “bend but not break” leading to Tulsa scoring one TD on a long run, followed by 3 FGs.

I'm feeling a little beaten down already this year. If the Vikes can lose a home opener against Cleveland, ISU can lose this game on the road regardless of how poor Tulsa might be.

I expect a low scoring game where the only people watching by the end are diehard ISU fans, Tulsa fans, and degenerate gamblers. ISU wins the game 14-13 but loses three highly prized 2014 recruits who had the misfortune of tuning into the game. CPR gives Mess the good ol' vote of confidence in his postgame presser. The long, slow meltdown on Cyclone Fanatic continues.

I am not trying to be down on our Cyclones and I know we've only had 2 games so far, but this is interesting. It's either we get a road win and prepare to take on the Big 12 competition with confidence or we just look like fish out of water heading into the Texas game and beyond.

I think it will be close...

ISU - 21
Tulsa - 28

I'm thinking a game kinda like the UNI game. Tulsa wins 28-20.

We will go into the game knowing that Tulsa will want to run it on us, and we probably will struggle to stop it. And offensively, it doesn't seem to matter what we do, our ceiling is about 20 pts or so.

Tulsa fans: Drunk
Iowa State fans: Drunk

Both teams play such a bad football game everybody gets passed out drunk before the game is over and we don't know the final score until we wake up the next day. Which will be some team probably winning by 3 points in a game that has a total score of less then 20.

ISU comes out flat early because they had to go to Tulsa. 10-3 at half Tulsa up. ISU come alive in second half because they realize they get to go home. Tulsa still bad because they live in f-ing Tulsa. ISU wins 31-10 on two TDs by wimberly and Ecby.

Rhoads and the players have to be sick at the stomache. This team needs the W even worse than Tulsa (they can win 6 games quite easily in C-USA). I think ISU plays with more urgency than the last two games and dominates like they are capable of doing. Young players start to emerge.
