Even if it was his shoulder, the sport has taught as time and time again that QBs get the benefit of the doubt and are to be protected. Just not today, in this game, on that particular game deciding play.
And they aren’t supposed to. A guy running (not sliding) and being brought down can be tackled. And tackled without leading with a crown.

Again it’s a horrible rule that’s even more horribly officiated. And it’s the most impactful play in CFB and comes down to discretion of a group of people that prove game after game that they are horrible at their job.

Get rid of the rule. It’s ******* stupid. When a player on either side of the ball lowers their head on contact, call a penalty.

Actual enforcement of the old spearing rule on both offensive and defensive players would make the game far safer and remove games being decided by incompetent moron officials.

Yes, I posted this earlier.

Did they go into the review under the impression they had ruled it a fumble or ruled that he was down? It makes a big difference, because they need indisputable evidence to overturn whatever the call was on the field. Before he went to review, the head ref announced that the ruling on the field was Dekkers was down.

None of us should be surprised the ruling went against us there. Same as it ever was.
This needs to be addressed. Did they make a mistake in giving the ball to Texas? Why wasn't Campbell demanding an explanation. I think they got the call backwards and didn't realize it.

That's a ******* football game. If Texas hadn't done some things they could have won by 40.
Yeah...don't know about that....

total yards ISU 404 to Texas 364
We had 6 penalities
1 punt block
1 missed field goal
two turnovers to their 0. our two turnovers were in scoring position
Xaviers walk in touch down drop.

They had one major drop is all and a missed field goal.
Did you watch the same game? Wonder how that translates to texas by 40

My biggest gripe is no review.
Freyler was booted with no flag thrown but after they stopped play to review.

This looked much worse. Even if they reviewed and it was clean........at least take a look. But nope.

Same as it ever was.

Our fans are so ******* stupid.
Please don't do that.

You want to lump him (them) in with the rest of us? Not cool.

I understand what you mean. You just should rephrase that.

OK?

Thank you.

Consistency would be nice. It's called on us enough, but I guess you are ok with it not being called on UT in a critical moment.
Yep, but consistency as in if you are going to call it you better be damn sure. Too big of an impact to be in the maybe category.

They called it a fumble on the field - the ref mispoke when going into review.

We've had players ejected for far less. If targeting cannot be called in an objective way, it shouldn't be a penalty. (But it needs to be a penalty, because honestly -- player safety should come first).

But I'm also mad that now everyone's going to focus their ire on the refs (or Hutchinson, who--despite the missed catch--saved our bacon on 4th and 2 the play before), rather than on the same coaching mistakes we've seen plaguing almost every single game in recent memory.

Someone needs to tell me this---

HOW EXACTLY IS A COACHING STAFF SUPPOSED TO INSTRUCT THEIR TEAM TO PLAY WHEN THE OFFICIALS ARE PIECES OF GARBAGE?
Maybe practice not getting punts blocked and making several critical mistakes throughout the 60 minutes of the game.
