*** Official Eastern Illinois VS IOWA STATE Game(Day) Thread ***

I agree with you but let's be realistic. If we don't win by 30 tonight, hold them to < 50, see Lard get 20+ minutes, see LW score 35, have 20 assists between NWB and Haliburton and shoot > 40% from long range - season is over and there will be calls for CSP's head.
At least we're being realistic.

I think Prohm will roll with these 9 the rest of the season.

1. NWB
2. Wigginton
3. Shayok
4. THT
5. Jacobson
6. Haliburton
7. Young
8. Lewis/Talley
9. Talley/Lewis

Conditt and Lard could maybe get some minutes if Jacobson and Young are in foul trouble.

Lol, Lard will get some serious minutes barring a setback in his attitude.

He's top five in talent on a very talented roster. Steve Prohm undoubtedly knows this. He'll be in the rotation somewhere unless he develops a **** attitude again.
I don’t disagree about his talent but we’ll see. I feel like his attitude has been fine ever since he returned but that hasn’t translated to playing time. To me, it’s very clear that Jacobson is getting the minutes and after that, Conditt is seemingly ahead of Lard and I’m it might be safe to bet that Solomon will be too even though he hasn’t played yet.

Coach Prohm has said he needs to see the effort level in practice and workouts, so Cam has a clear path to increased minutes. It's not like his quest for PT is reliant on him having stellar production over the span of three game minutes.

If his minutes are limited because his effort level in practice hasn’t been good enough, I really am not sure that I can see him changing that. It’s almost his 3rd year in the program. If he hasn’t changed it by now, why would he all the sudden?

He's a competitor. Coach Prohm couldn't be as strict with him last year due to lack of options. He went through a lot just to get back to this point already. I expect him to go that last 100 yards to get back where he wants to be. Maybe not as fast as we would all like, but the light will come on.

I sure hope so because I miss watching Freshman Lard play.

The carrot of playing time, hopefully. It may take him awhile to get that, though.

And judging by his play, I don’t think it’s just attitude or effort problems, or at least retribution for lacking that. He’s not playing at a high enough level yet to top-8 minutes. He’s not playing at his level last year, likely in part due to his time away and weight gain, and we have better talent than last year. Who do you sit in favor of a foul and mistake prone Lard?

That said, just like with Lewis, I’m all in favor of investment minutes against overmatched opponents to see if that helps expedite improvement.

I'm floored that it is a mystery why Lard is not getting much playing time. He has 14 fouls in 31 minutes and in the last game it was 3 fouls in 3 minutes so it isn't like it is getting better. I want him to succeed too because he can help the team, but he has to be helping the team to get playing time and a foul every two minutes isn't going to help the team.

So he didn't get in the first half against Drake because he was still in foul trouble from the Southern game?

Yeah, if it were just foul trouble and not knowing how to avoid fouling in game play, he should be getting enough minutes to foul out. Unfortunately, he’s just not playing that well, regardless of fouls. Too many defensive mistakes and being lost on offense.

Here’s why that doesn’t tell the whole story:

Against Southern, he entered the game in the first half at the 12 minute mark. He played for 4 minutes and committed 1 foul. He sat a total of 16 minutes that half. Foul trouble clearly wasn’t an issue. He didn’t enter the second half until about the 10 minute mark. To that point, he only had 1 foul and still managed to only play in about 4 of the first 30 minutes of the game.

Against Drake, he didn’t enter the game until the second half so you can’t say that was because of foul trouble. He can’t stay on the court because of foul trouble but there’s a bigger issue going on as to why he can’t get on the court. Foul trouble is just a convenient excuse for fans and the media.

He most likely didn't get in the first half of the Drake game because he can't figure out how to play without fouling like it is his job. In the second half it proved to be very true. It is a great idea to gift a team a few fouls early in the game. Might as well get them shooting free throws early.

My bad, 14 fouls in 31 minutes is a great ratio.

I'm not sure if it's just the optimist in me, but I think Lard is gonna return to form at some point and be the main reason we win a few games.

The talent is there. This team is a whole lot more dangerous with an engaged Lard. I'm pulling for him.
At first I read this as “an enlarged Lard”, which sounds like a pretty serious medical condition.

Referring to other posts, but please no on Lard playing time debate starting up again.
