Official Bowl Watch thread

I don’t give too much respect for the committee for the bs they pulled in 2014. TCU dropping from #3 to #6 after winning 55-3 against Iowa State the last weekend. TCU had the better resume and their one loss was to a top 10 Baylor team on the road in a nail bitter. OSU had a slightly weaker resume and got dominated by a 6-6 Virginia Tech team at home. I don’t exactly trust the committee to do the right thing this year either, but we will see.

The rebuttal to that is that tOSU won it all that year, so therefore the committee got it right.

Maybe TCU would have won it? They got robbed of the chance they deserved. They destroyed a very good Ole Miss team 42-3, who had beaten Alabama earlier in the year. Just because OSU won it all, doesn’t mean they deserved to be in.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but that's the line I always hear.

More to the point, I'm sure it'll get brought up if tOSU skips OU for the playoff...

Orlando seems to be pushing a lot for a Syracuse-West Virginia matchup. The Camping World bowl organizer happens to be an SU alum so they must really want to bring back the rivalry.

I've also read that Pitt and NC State are in the mix as well on the ACC end.

Guessing Camping World will take a backyard brawl if the option is available??? Also the WVU x NC State game this year was cancelled so would be an interesting talking point when promoting the game.

If you are the Alamo Bowl and WVU or ISU are your top options who do you pick?

I'd say Iowa State will get the Alamo. Easier travel for Cyclone fans and I'm sure you have a larger alumni base in Texas between San Antonio, DFW, & Houston.

The NY6 scenarios are interesting. Texas must upset Oklahoma to secure a NY6 bid or if they lose, hope they do not drop below #15. WV was at #13 before last weekends loss so we are most likely out of the running for an at large (stranger things have happened.. 8-4 Auburn played in the the 2017 Sugar Bowl). Oklahoma is playing on Dec 31st or Jan 1st no matter what happens.

I'm really starting to think it's Alamo bowl for us. OU wins, they're in the playoff and Texas in the Sugar. If Texas wins, they're in the Sugar and OU gets a NY6 bowl. West Virginia goes Camping.

Alamo or Houston, IMO are our bowl possibilities at this point. And i agree that Alamo seems most likely.

For the same reasons Alamo would pick us first, Camping World probably takes WVU first if Alamo is Texas, so on the chance we don't have 2 NY6 bowls for the big 12, we're probably in houston.

Sounds good to me...Alamo or Houston would be great, obviously Alamo would be great and the best bowl game we've ever played in, but Houston will have a great SEC opponent, normally I would be all for the Camping World Bowl but just cant get excited about the possible opponents and it would seem to make sense for WV this year.

I am going to be pulling hard for OU to beat UT in a tight, well-played game. That is our best path to Alamo Bowl invite. OU makes CFP, and UT plays in Sugar. I think ISU will be selected over WVU.

Plus, Big12 gets more money for a team in CFP, and I would love to see tOSU and the B1G out of the CFP for 2 years straight. Best scenario to get the CFP to eight, as it should be with 5 conference champs + best G5 + 2 at large (ND).

What is lost in the OU v tOSU argument is the bias being placed on Northwestern to even have them ranked so that the B1G CCG looks better. Northwestern has zero wins against the current top 25 CFP, four loss team, and a HOME loss to the Akron Zips. FFS, they are so overrated just to prop the B1G and the ****** B1G West up.

I’m all for going to 8 teams, but I don’t get the narrative for AQs. If NW should happen to beat OSU this Saturday would they deserve to be in an 8 team playoff? I could probably make an argument for Texas if they won, considering they would’ve beaten OU twice. Also, there would certainly be years you wouldn’t want 2 independents.

I am amazed that there are so many people picking ISU for the Texas bowl. I thought being third in the conference and traveling well, we would be above that.

This...So essentially if we go to the Tx bowl it is like we finished 4th or 5th...No thanks. And I’d much rather see ISU playing ACC team than SEC just from a win standpoint. Nothign wrong with playing a solid ACC team.

A week ago, the Camping World Bowl site had 11 of 12 sportswriters predicting Iowa State (one had Texas Tech). Today it is only 7 of 12 (with 4 for WV and 1 for Texas). What happened? All I can think is that most of the sportswriters weren't paying attention to the details of what would happen if Oklahoma beat West Virginia (dropping them to 4th in the Big 12).

No matter the bowl we still finished 3rd in the Big 12. Texas A&M or Auburn would be very exciting to play and a huge game to win.

If Texas ends up in Alamo, Camping World will do anything to make WVU and Pitt happen. Us landing in Houston wouldn’t be at all a disappointment. Honestly, a win over Texas A&M or Auburn would be a bigger boost for this program than a win over NC State or Syracuse, even though they are all good teams.
