Official Bowl Watch thread

My guesses
Texas beats OU
NY6: OU
NY6: Texas
Alamo: ISU
Camping world: WVU
Texas Bowl: Baylor

OU beats Texas
NY6: OU
Alamo: Texas
Camping world: ISU
Texas Bowl: WVU

I just wonder if Camping world would take WVU over ISU? West Virginia is closer to Orlando and Iowa is closer to Houston making it a lot easier for fans to get to.

I don't think the WV fan base has traveled very well in prior bowl games. I think a bowl would take us over them.

I think they are required to take the #2 team if #1 is in the playoff. So in this case they are because they look at conference record.

OU beat 11-2 TCU last year to make the playoffs and a NY6 bowl did not take TCU. They played in the Alamo.

Yeah, I don't think they have to. Best bet for us to move up (if that is indeed the case) is for Texas to win and have OU get a NY6 invite too.

Agree. If Texas loses to OU and is 9-4 there’s no way they’re making a NY6 and the Alamo would love to have them. For ISU to make Alamo we need to cheer for UT over OU and then both make NY6 bowls

Is sugar obligated to take a 9-4 Texas team over others?
Every year the tie ins and contracts change in some form, usually due to renegotiation or due to the CFP rotation. Here is how it works for 2018, while there is no rule set for how a #2 team is selected if the champion goes to the CFP, in some conferences there is a set rule on how it is selected, in the SEC it is the Highest ranked team not in the CFP, but could be the second placed team as well. Either way if a team gets to the CFP, a "second place" team will go to the Sugar bowl as below:
Big 12 Conference
2018:
Another thing to note these are not necessarily 1st place, 2nd place teams, etc. they are choices. so the Alamo gets 2nd choice, Camping gets 3rd choice, they can select any team they want from the bowl eligible teams in the conference that are still available regardless of how they rank in the standings.

Gotcha, thanks. So if ou beats Texas, theoretically the Sugar could take any big 12 team they want? Am i understanding that correctly?

The Sugar Bowl was a CFP game last year so the Big 12 did not have another NY6 tie in bowl outside the CFP. This is why we only had one guaranteed spot.
2017 Big 12 Bowl Ties
The Sugar Bowl is a College Football Playoff Semifinal – the Big 12 doesn’t have a direct tie-in this season. If the Big 12 doesn’t get a team in the College Football Playoff …

1. Valero Alamo Bowl vs. Pac-12
2. Camping World Bowl vs. ACC
3. Texas Bowl vs. SEC
4. AutoZone Liberty Bowl vs. SEC
5. Cactus Bowl vs. Pac-12
6. Zaxby’s Heart of Dallas Bowl vs. Big Ten

2018 Big 12 Bowl Ties, Affiliations
A Big 12 team will be in the Sugar Bowl vs. the SEC – it’ll be the champion if not in the College Football Playoff. There can’t be a Big 12 team this year in the Rose Bowl.

College Football Playoff Semifinal: If Selected

1. Sugar Bowl vs. SEC
2. Valero Alamo Bowl vs. Pac-12
3. Camping World Bowl vs. ACC
4. Texas Bowl vs. SEC
5. AutoZone Liberty Bowl vs. SEC
6. Cheez-It Bowl vs. Pac-12
7. Armed Forces Bowl vs. American Athletic

Well Theoretically I think yes, and maybe no, the problem is, in other conferences the rules for how this is done is published publicly. It is not, at least that anyone I know can find in the Big 12, and since the conference championship has came back during the NY6 era there has not been a lot of precedent to come up with an idea. Whether or not there are rules or if it is up to the Bowl selection committee and/or the Big 12 is really yet to be seen.
So at this point we can assume it will be 1: the conference champ, 2: the conf championship loser, if the champ is in the CFP, or 3: the highest ranked team after the conference championship, Not in the CFP, which I think is what is used for the SEC.

Last year the sugar bowl was not an auto big 12 because it was a semifinal game I believe.

In years that the sugar bowl isn't part of the playoff the sugar bowl takes the next best option from the big 12 if a team goes to the playoffs. So if OU makes a semifinal, Texas will fill the sugar bowl and then Alamo will get to chose us or WVU

So, now I'm all in for OU!

1. For the best bowl slot
2. For conference revenue/profile boost
3. Bc I can't stand Texas. Horns down
4. Would love to see Kyler vs. Tua
5. Texas would likely steal Penn St NY6 spot, which makes the world better

If we are only looking for the best bowl slot for the Cyclones then we should really be pulling for Texas. Texas gets the Sugar Bowl and OU gets a NY6. I’m not confident enough in the CFP putting OU in the playoffs if they win so #HookEm.

If OU avenges their only loss, to a 9 win Texas team, the committee won't jump an Ohio State team that lost to a 6-6 Purdue and barely beat Maryland by giving up 52. No matter how much Herbstreit pleads and makes the case.

The only other threat is an OT thriller-like loss by Georgia to Alabama, but even then it's hard to see a 2 loss team jumping OU.

OU is in the cat-bird seat right now.
