***OFFICIAL BIG 12 EXPANSION THREAD 2.0***

Somebody will trot this "possibility" out every three months for the duration of the GoR and KU will not, I repeat, NOT be leaving the B12. And the B1G doesn't need or want OU. Would be a good move (and doable) for Vandy though...

Not sure OU could dump OSU that easy. Not sure about KU.

All I know is the two most powerful conferences, BIG and SEC need two more members each to reach 16.

Who knows if this article has any basis for being true...but I do believe the last statement in it:

"When the most powerful people in college athletics want something, there are ways to do it, regardless of the contracts and paperwork in place."

That "article" could basically be summarized as: typical Nebraska fan pretending to be a journalist

In his defense the bar for this sort of thing is as low as possible. Can you open a Twitter account? You're a fan journalist now!

It's been pointed out before that there are no legislative ties for keeping competition going between OU and OSU. I'd bet OU would rather have their rivalry back with Nebraska than keep their current one with OSU. Of course, their biggest rival is still Texas...

Just saw something yesterday about teams leaving the NCAA and concern that if schools wanted to leave and form their own "governing body" that the federal government is probably going to be looking really close at their tax exempt status.

Ya and you think Texas would play them?

Sure, they will look at it. Then they will realize how many college sports fans are also voters and political donors, and that will be the end of that.

I really don't think that would matter. Nobody is going to vote someone out of office because they are taxing a multi-billion dollar industry because their favorite college team has to pay some taxes on their 26 million++ tv revenue.

If they decided they were going to break away from the NCAA. I would just as soon like them to form as a minor league underneath the NFL and break away from the Universities. Cause if they break away from the NCAA, it is completely all about money.

Of note, the NCAA is a big part of the problem here. Some how long ago they decided to be out of the major college football game. Why the hell haven't they done with major college football that they did with every other sport, control the post season. If the NCAA had controlled the post season and the money coming from that, I don't think we are in as big of a mess as it currently is.

So Lee Barfknecht is a "pretend" journalist? Okay...

No, he's ****ing Bob Woodward...

He's a big red hack. If you're such a sucker that you believe this ambiguous "looking in" he mentions means that the B1G is going to invite KU during the GoR period, well then enjoy his columns/posts.

But please don't confuse his rumor mongering with journalism.

I'm curious if Jim Delany is counted among the "most powerful people in college athletics"?

Because if he was, wouldn't Notre Dame be in the B1G right now?

The power conferences will never break away from the NCAA as many numbskulls have suggested. What they may do is to create a new division under the NCAA umbrella for those schools who have the financial resources to fund full Cost of Attendence for all of their student-athletes. The NCAA BB tourneys would remain as-is but they would conduct a separate FB playoff.

gor is not going if the B1G adds anyone its vandy and mizzou no GOR.. SEC is stronger and richer and B1G is richer I. Those schools fit the B1G model better and they can profit even if they stink. Doubt they would go for it though. If they can't get acc schools they can't get anyone. We will renew our gor in 5 years long before it's done only thing will stop it is if our model becomes un profitable or we become so weak we can't get in the playoffs. I see neither happening. They need to move on. This speculation will kill us.

No...because ND doesn't want to be in the Big Ten right now. That quote means if the most powerful people in sports agree upon something...say like Texas wanting to join the Big Ten and the Big Ten wanting to add Texas (just an example, not suggesting that it would happen)...regardless of the contractual agreements already existing...it will happen.
