***Official Big 12 Expansion Thread '16***

Well, other than rabid fan support they check all the boxes:

~ strong academic standing
~ proximity
~ land grant/ag school culture
~ updated facilities

I'd like to think their attendance averages would increase with weekly Big 14 matchups. And hey- if they can't put butts in the seats I'm sure other conference fanbases would love to make a trip to Fort Collins.

Big 14?

12 is about the max supported by the cut list

Fort Collins and CSU are PRIMED to join the Big 12. Yes, the football attendance is poor on average, but they pack the stands when they play "upper tier" games (e.g. Boise State, TCU, etc.). Put them in the Big 12, and EVERY game would be that way. Plus, you have a lot of midwestern transplants and Big 12 alums like me who would buy season tickets in a second if they were in the Big 12. CSU will be ready - I just don't know how I feel about having Texas in town every other weekend in the fall.

CSU had 26,000 in the stands for their only home game against a ranked opponent last year, Boise State. Capacity is 32,500.

The only "P5 schools" in that group, which were stated often, are BYU, Cincy, UConn, and maybe Houston. If we cannot pry away a current P5 school, then I hope any expansion candidates are limited to these four. Anything else would be a joke.

From what I heard in the call in show from JP was that he said, Anyone that says they know what is going to happen isn't speaking from fact. He said that even the decision holders in the room didn't know what was going to happen and he is in the room. Paraphrasing...it was at the very beginning of his segment from what i remember but for me it was just a reminder that most of what we're seeing is just guesses. They might as well be citing our forum for sources.

In that case, I have it on good authority that the Big 12 is picking up Kentucky, Louisville, UNC, and Duke. The divisions will be split between "football" schools and "basketball" schools.

Many rumors making the rounds, and the strategic leaks just fan the flames. Every once in a while can read something humorous. Don't know if this is original but got a kick out of this posted by MountainMan over on Land of Thieves:

"The Big 12 is a family.
OU is the abused wife of the Big 12. UT is the drunken abusing dad. KU is the oldest sister who knows mom and dad fight and tries to take care of the kids (KSU, ISU, OSU, Rapist, and TCU). WVU is the outcast black sheep who has moved out already as a teenager.

OU has tried to put it's foot down making demands (Network, CCG, expansion)but UT just keeps on getting drunk on power slapping the **** out of OU. OU could leave but want's to stay and try to work it out for the kids sake. There is no long term plan for the family (conference) at this point. Right now the family is in counseling as the public **** show unfolds. All the neighbors (SEC, ACC, B1G, PAC) know UT is abusive but won't say anything."

Is Tech the family dog?

You know, other than the 63,000+ student UCF option. I'm not sure how theyre any less P5 profile. Elevate them to a P5, and theyre a potential gold mine.

OU is an abused wife holding the family together??? That's a good one...

It's more like OU is the hot, dissatisfied wife who is shopping the "neighbors" for a better sugar daddy, but can't quite find a way to make the divorce look like the fault of dad and the kids. And she's also scared to leave dad because her recent success has been using dad's "resources", and she is not sure if she will be able obtain those resources in sufficient quantity another way if she leaves him.

Yeah, I think there is a lot of potential in the two Florida schools. Both have a huge enrollment, both are in large and growing markets that are currently outside the B12 footprint. With the WVU addition, it seems like a move East makes more sense than west. And of course Florida is a football recruiting hotbed. I think either one of them could grow nicely with the resources and exposure B12 membership would bring.
