As someone who watches the premier league semi regularly I have really appreciated how most of these games have been reffed. They’ve let them be more physical without falling for the flopping nearly as much.
The mistaken identity VAF might be the greatest thing they’ve done for soccer ever. I hope that gets to be standard and it’s used to cut down on the flopping.
Draws are part of the game, but I've had a similar thought about the knockouts. Instead of penalties after 120 minutes, take six of the unused subs and have them play it out. They have fresh legs and room to operate in a game that actually resembles soccer that tests team depth instead of something testing a niche skill. Downside is that penalties are great drama and upsets would become less likely.
I'm still hurting from my birth country Panama losing last night. Our only winnable game in the group and we lose that way. Time to take two straight beatings by England and Croatia next.
