so the closer and closer we get to early evening, it seems like a line of storms may form in SW Iowa and move E/NE through west central/central iowa

IDK about a bunch of noobs with experience chasing the wide open plains will adjust to being in/around the bluffs, river(s), lack of grid roads and clear views.
Definitely true.
It seems like the terrain has had a tendency to bust up the big tornadoes. If you look at a map of Iowa tornadoes over the years, they drop off dramatically when you get to the Driftless. There may be other reasons for that, but I think it seeing fewer of those kind of storms isn't a coincidence.

I've kept an eye on Ventusky all day and it's not even showing THAT happening. Seems like everything is going around the metro.
I'm more than OK with it. Trying to wrangle a 4.5 year old and 5 month old in the basement isn't on my list of "things I want to deal with". Not to mention the 2 dumbass (but they're OUR dumbasses) cats we have... Only "fun" thing is that the 4.5 year old can't quite say "tornado" and calls them "tomatoes".

There are so many funny words kids say wrong. Our son couldn't pronounce our oldest daughters name, so for about a year he called her "Ed" and she would respond without even thinking twice.
