A terrifying 1.5” of snow forecasted in Des Moines… Sure it might be windy, but this is going to be the heavy wet snow, not going to blow around much in the metro area. Snow ending by 8:00 AM Wednesday at the latest. The temperature will be close to 32 degrees around noon. But yes, issue a blizzard warning until 3:00 PM Wednesday.

If you read the NWS forecast discussion they talk about how the snow will start off wet and heavy but will become lighter.

Thought the rain we got would wash my car off. Turned the wipers on and noticed all the dirt they wiped off. Went to the gym for an hour and we got another shower of rain. Turned the wipers on again and more dirty water. Just seems the rain we get in central Iowa any more carries a bunch of dust particles.

I did see the NWS post something about this storm having a lot of dust from New Mexico/Texas.

Not exactly sure.

Could be silt. Silt is much finer particles that you may not see easily until you add water. With the warmth, the very top of the ground has thawed and wind could be picking that stuff up.

Well, poop. Guess it isn't going 100% south of me. Winds won't matter to me in the heart of da city but not really all that keen on 6" of wet heavy snow.

So KCCI and WHO both say around 2" of snow for Ames/DesMoines but maybe 5"-7" around the Carroll area. Normally when they say a little, we get a lot. I hope they are right.
