***Official 2025 Weather Thread***

Hopefully I-35 between DSM and Ames improves in the next couple hours... still 'travel not advised'.

I generally say to check the cams to see what they actually look like. In my experience the DOT is quick to downgrade roads and slow to improve them on the website compared to actual conditions.
They had a blockage around the boondocks at 7. Now the blockage is gone but still travel not advised coming from 20 south.

30 was fine until Benton county which is not unusual. Hard packed in both lanes. Need salt/sand and sun.

Anyone gone from Des Moines to Ames recently? wanting to go to the meet but unsure of conditions.

Seems like the 12" to 18" forecast was warranted

The National Weather service was pretty spot on with the forecast.

The interesting thing was that two weeks out there were those predictions of a big Thanksgiving storm and everyone (correctly) said that you can't really count on those things so far out. This was one time that they were right!

Like I said earlier, I laughed at my phone weather app when it was showing 8-10 inches for Saturday about a week ago. Turns out they were really close.

We cancelled a baby shower that was scheduled for yesterday on Monday. At that point, I still thought the whole thing would fizzle out, but it was going to be in the country and no one wanted to risk anything.
