*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Some posters on this board will never give any credit to the Brewers. What happen to the poster who said the Brewers are feasting on bad teams and pitchers?
And some people on this board are doom and gloom and post at incredible rates when the Cubs are losing, and are mostly silent when they are winning.

I was worried he may never find control off the strike zone the other year but he's made a believer out of me and has been a stud this season.
His fastball is not just 100 MPH but must have good movement or very high spin rate. Hitters are not making good contact on his fastball.

I'm not doom and gloom, I'm more call it like I see it from a big picture aspect. I get excited when we are good but call out the flaws when I see it. I have lost a lot of trust in the ownership and front office since winning it all in 2016. I watched a ton of games that season and it was can't miss TV late in the season for me. I thought we were setup to win multiple rings over the next 5+ years then the bargain bin mentally set in and they pissed a golden opportunity away. I still think Joe Maddon deserves a statue outside of Wrigley for the job he did. They really did him wrong not trying to keep adding to that core roster like they Dodgers are not afraid to do right now in their window.

That is in the past though. I've said it over the past couple years now what is the vision of this roster? We sold off the core and restocked the farm system and now that some of those guys are ready we don't seem to create paths for them. The Tucker trade I thought signaled we meant business this year but that was blowing their wad on 1 trade then back to business as usual. Made some OK moves at the deadline but still failed to address the glaring need of a top end starting pitcher that they failed to do coming into the season too and sat on the prospects that they still have no plan for yet. I am trying to stay positive that they figure this out but also skeptical that they tailspin again like the last 2 years and we watch Tucker walk and predictably go cheap again in the offseason and settle for a roster that gives you enough hope to be better but realistically is still flawed.

I’m not upset about the Cubs’ recent losses.
What frustrates me is our front office’s lack of full commitment to winning.
We had a real window to win it all this year, but instead of aggressively pursuing proven players who could help, they went bargain hunting.

Did we actually expect more?

When/if this offense gets back to where they were, which they are fully capable of doing, this is the best offensive team in MLB with decent starting pitching and an improved bullpen.

The offense is in a horrible slump at the worst time possible with how Milwaukee is playing, but this team is fully capable of winning a title.

I'm not excusing it because I wanted a solid top of rotation piece at the deadline but it's kinda crazy most consistent things since have been rotation and 3rd base. If it continues and we get 2 of the Big 3 going we'll really be cooking then

Why are you so set on we need to get rid of Taillon? Seems like you and maybe another person or 2 here are constantly saying over the past year or so we should trade him. I think last trade deadline they should of been sellers and I would have been good with him and some other players being traded then when he was having a good season, but they held for some reason and still failed to make the playoffs. He's not that pricey of a pitcher in today's market for what he's done as a Cub. $18 mil for basically a 3rd or 4th guy in your rotation when both Steele and Shota are healthy. ERA may not be the sexiest sometimes but has WHIP of 1.28 1.13 and 1.11 which is really solid for a middle of the rotation guy that eats up innings and can go on hot streaks at times. You aren't going to get similar production without paying that or more. Would have to see some significant additions to the rotation to chance losing him after what we've been going through in recent seasons trying to fill out a healthy rotation. Even if you dump him of cost savings you probably still would have to pick up some of the tab and not get much return for him.
Because I think he’s a choker. 0-2 meatballs. I think he’s worth his contract but I’d rather see an upgrade. He threw well tonight so I’m sure he’s taking the final spot in the rotation over Brown or Assad. But I don’t want to see them hand him the ball in October

I hear you and I don’t think he’s a bad pitcher.

But if you told me we could trade him and take his contract + $5 or so more million and take a shot on a Michael King, Shane Bieber or trading for a Pablo Lopez, you are massively raising the ceiling. There are guys out there you can get for Taillon that you can trust to start a playoff game. I’m not sure I trust Taillon to start a playoff game.

So you don’t like that we have Kelly available to pinch hit tonight because McGuire is on the Roster?
It’s fine he was available to PH. They kept 3 catchers because of risk of Injuries. Which it happened with Amaya. Hate it for him he got hurt tonight but it’s why they kept McGuire. The move paid off. They didn’t lose McGuire to waivers. He’s back to being the back up who will see 1 start a week. The Front Office has shown they absolutely have no trust in Mo catching right now. That has been my point they made him untouchable in trades. The team didn’t make a big move to help them in 2025. They currently have no faith in him Catching over a career back up Catcher so he sits in AAA. It will be interesting to see who comes up now with Amaya going down.

Anything can happen in the playoffs, but the Cubs’ chances of winning the World Series are very low with the current roster. Is our offense just in a horrible slump, or simply regressing to the mean? Both PCA and Suzuki were on pace for 45 home runs, but it was highly unlikely they could sustain that pace. While both are good players, we had the chance to add proven talent to help this team, yet our front office squandered that opportunity.

Shota, Boyd, Horton at the moment are the top 3 in the rotation with Horton a rookie and innings concerns down the stretch and Boyd throwing more innings than he has in 5 seasons. Taillon will be in the mix even if those 2 stay healthy and fresh as he is a proven arm. We need him in the rotation right now as we struggle to get a good outing out of the 5th spot in the rotation these days if we even have a starter healthy to go 5 for that turn in the rotation.

Lot of hard hit balls tonight which was good to see. Manufactured a couple runs in the 8th. Horton looks like He could be great. Tucker hit 3 balls really hard as well. Mets also losing.

Good night. They needed that. Winning this series would be a big boost.

To be fair, this was a tough trade deadline this year, there was little movement of significant players compared to most years. Hard to make a deal if no one wants to sell.

That’s about as good as the news could be, even if a serious sprain he should be back at some point in September.
Great news. Who should be the starting catcher next year? Amaya or Kelly? I want Amaya to start because he is younger and has higher ceilings than Kelly.
