*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

I think this is an honest take and how I view it too. Here's the biggest free agent deals they have given under Ricketts and non have topped $200 mil yet (source: Here are the richest contracts in the Chicago Cubs' history - Yahoo Sports)

Jason Heyward: $184 million (eight years)
Dansby Swanson: $177 million (seven years)
Jon Lester: $155 million (six years)
Yu Darvish: $126 million (six years)
Seiya Suzuki: $99.6 million* (five years)

Other "notable" signings
Marcus Stroman: Three-year, $71 million
Jameson Taillon: Four-year, $68 million

Largest average per year:
Jon Lester: $25.8 million
Dansby Swanson: $25.3 million
Marcus Stroman: $23.7 million
Jason Heyward: $23 million
Yu Darvish: $21 million
Kris Bryant* $19.5 million
Kris Bryant** $18.6 million

KB contracts were ones agreed on to avoid arbitration
I saw 10/350 mil
I’m fine with that
You just have to be committed to developing guys. We should spend more on the guys that can make them shine.

Though 2 years older, not sure he’d take same exact AAV as Vlad.

My guess is it’ll be closer to $400 over 10.

Ends up as a higher AAV than Vlad and is tied with Judge. Would be I believe the 4th largest contract ever, which in guessing is where he’ll end up.

Not pleasant at the ol' ballpark tonight:

And yet there will be people in the bleachers without there shirts on. Mostly men.
I keep reading writers say there is no way we resign Tucker. The more I hear that the more I wonder if Rickets is going to do an I’ll so you and build a team around him like Jed suggested he was the ideal guy to do it with. Man I hope so because guys like PCA, Shaw and Alcantara will make great roster fillers on the cheap for awhile
i respect that your post was at 1:20 this afternoon. No lights.

It's nice to essentially know we'll score 8 every night.

Feels like they about have to do that to get the W right now as I don't trust the bullpen to hold a lead in a close game. Pressly still has not thrown a clean inning in 8 appearances, gave up 2 more hits last night before getting out of it. Just 2 strikeouts on the season so far which you'd like to see your closer get a few more outs by missing some bats than putting some guys on base and having to rely on your defense to help get you out of the jam you created.

I'll take wins regardless but how the bullpen has pitched so far gives me concerns about how that is going to play out on nights the bats aren't as hot as they are right now.

I just hope those are Imanaga nights, so it might not matter as much.

Lol we posted nearly the same time. Like the article says Rea probably gets moved into the rotation. I hope they leave Wicks down and let him get some run in Iowa before trying him in Chicago again. Rea has been pretty good in the long reliever role so far hate to take him out of that but he was the likely option for now until Assad is healthy.

It was interesting they brought up Roberts. But last I looked, Jordan Wicks hasn't been pitching well with the I-Cubs. In more limited innings, neither has Palencia or Killian.

I didn't realize Keagan Thompson is with the I-Cubs. But not on 40-man roster

You’re going on really small samples. Palencia was dominant in the spring and has given up one run in two appearances

Agree it's a small sample size. But giving up 2 runs in 2IP on 3 hits isn't a good start and warrant a call-up. Especially when Neely, Thompson, Little & Roberts all have 0.00 ERA's in similar innings. Gotta reward performance vs. velocity.

I don't put too much credence into spring baseball results, too many at-bats against non-major league hitters.

I just don't see it with Wicks. Don't think he has the stuff. Going to be a 1st Round flop unfortunately I think.

Only one of the runs were earned and his SO//BB is 3.00
