*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

We have many problems....including mental. This team is really, really weak at executing.

PCA goes 3 for 3 today and what we will remember is sliding way off the base.

Ian Happ and Dansby are the biggest victims of the Ricketts choosing not to spend. They are both the exact players they've always been and have fair deal in the market (Happ may be a hair under market) but since the Ricketts refuse to spend like a big market club, it makes the fan base think that they're supposed to be providing superstar production for what they're paid which is in the 'very good' range and not the 'elite' range.
Happ is doing what he always does, he's having a slightly below average year. He was never more than and average outfielder.

PCA slides 3 feet off the base. I don't think i have every seen a team slide off the base more than this one. Happened several times now.

Frankly, we should. Game is on the line, and instead of a guy on second with no outs, we have nobody on with one out. MAJOR mistake there.

Can't remember to touch first on an infield hit, can't get a bunt down, can't put the ball in play with RISP, over sliding bases.

This is what I don't understand. "What he always does" is not slightly below average by any stretch.

He plays gold glove outfield and has produced offense at 15% better than the "average" major leaguer over a 9 year career. So far this year, he has been pretty average, which is worse than what he always does.

He isn't a star but he is an above average major league player.

I'm never going to agree with the Cub fans on this board who say the Cubs got a home team discount in signing Happ at $20M a year. He's a .240 hitter that will hit 20-25 HR's. There are a lot of MLB OF's that consistently put up those numbers and make $10-$15M a season.

I mean we can argue if he is average or slightly above average, doesn't really matter. Point is, he is what he is, I don't know why people get their hopes up and think he some sort of difference maker or think he is more than a serviceable outfielder. Not awful, not great. He's fine.

This Brewers/Reds series is interesting, We might need to root for the Brewers to sweep these guys.

They signed those contracts before or during arbitration or were in there 30s. Ian Happ was one of the better looming free agents when he signed his and only signed a 3 year deal instead of a 6-7 in exchange for a NTC.

I’ll agree that he is what he is. I guess I just don’t see the people who get their hopes up. Most that I see want him traded or benched. Haha

PCA had 3 big hits today and 2 of them he got himself out with poor baserunning. I like the guy, I think his wild-thing attitude helps himself mentally, but **** man.

We had 3 outs today on the bases against a really bad team.

3 of the last 4 games Counsell has made really poor pinch hit decisions. Zero reason Turner hit in the 6th. Just dumb. Next time up, we had runners on base but Busch was out of the game.

I think this team officially sucks. There will be no postseason for the Cubs.

But hey, we’ve got Jed for even longer, so.
