Red rock all but closed its gates this morning. Went down to 5000 cfs. Des Moines river close to flood stage.
The higher the value, the more "juiced" the atmosphere. CAPE = Convective Available Potential Energy. Energy makes weather go "BOOM".
Ok, so purple color make clouds that go boom boom. Got it.

Well crap, looks like I am leaving for Columbus, NE tomorrow at 5 AM. That's going to make a long day when I'll get home from racing around 3 AM. I really need to find someone who can drive the hauler to go with me to some of these races.
Feel like we have a couple storms per year were the word 'derecho' gets thrown around. None of them come close to resembling the storm in 2020.
Got water in my basement in WDM with 3.5 inches in my rain gauge overnight.

Anyone know of a place my son could park his pickup during the storm?
He's a student at ISU, but would come to Ankeny. I'm guessing Costco after they close and before they open. Not sure if they monitor or not. He's worried about hail.
One of my window wells started filling up and water came in through the window. Luckily it was the one in the unfinished part of the basement and closest to the floor drain. Only had to move a rug and couple of totes.

Had that happen several years ago. I built up that area with dirt and made sure it had plenty of mulch on it and haven't had that issue since.
I’m on this current trip about how people are so traumatized they think every potential “derecho” will be like the big one. That was an extreme occasion. They are going to have to start rating derechos pretty soon to get the derecho noise under control.
