Honestly though I always feel like getting through January is the hardest part.

We still usually get some snow in february\early march, but usually less of the bitter cold and melting isn't far away. Plus given the longer-term forecasts of above-average temps for the next couple weeks, even if it takes a turn it seems likelier for the back half of february.

The sun is just simply higher too. In a weird way March is a favorite time of year for that reason.

Yeah there is all of that...the grass is green and it was above average before the cold snap.

Yeah, I keep looking at the grass and wondering if it is green this time of year.

Hopefully this all helps a bit with the drought.

I don't think the ground really froze. It never got super cold until after snow storm #2. I think the snow from the 1st storm insulated the ground and this is soaking in. My back yard is a mud pit right now.
Depends where. There are spots in fields it froze down a couple feet cause there was hardly any cover from all the wind in the open areas. Yards though that collected more snow probably had almost no frost though.

A very not normal snow cover in WI. This is the most recent and I'd guess a lot of the blue is gone after today.

If ice melt (ice fishing) happens this week like it possibly could, I'm not sure if even one cold week can bring it back as the sun gets higher for longer.

So I assumed this poster on Twitter was a bit of a loon, but is there actually something to this?

Cali is going to get a lot of rain. It happens from time to time contrary to what has been sold the last few years.

With that the looney part is that she thinks anyone has been dreading a lot of rain for a long time. In fact it wasn't that long ago what everyone was dreading was quite the opposite.

Maybe she isn't a loon. Maybe she is just trying to help folks "re-image".

Had to replace the sump pump a few days ago. Poor thing was from 2006 and running every 1:45. New one still runs every 4-5 min. Ready for the rest of the snow to melt.
