Of this Top-10 list, the only two that had multiple, separate 6"+ events were 1923, and 1893.

1888 was 17" all in one day.

The top spot contains the Des Moines single day record, with 19.8 on New Year's Day of 1942.

May as well go for the record. It's going to suck no matter what.

I like the attempt to heighten awareness. But I question the accuracy of this statement in the state of Iowa. Back to back storms like this? That I can get behind.
We don't get that many 10-in+ storms here in Des Moines, and then combine the wind

Seems like there's plenty of time for them to get in. Game isn't until 5pm saturday, and the bulk of this snow will be over by noon Friday.
Then 50 mph winds gusts all Friday night. Might mess up airlines. Lots of blowing snow

Google is you friend:

Heated driveway cost ranges from $3,000 to $25,000, with the national average at about $12,900.

Thanks! I’m guessing that cost estimate is starting from scratch. If you have an existing driveway, the cost would be significantly higher due to the fact that you would be tearing out the old before rebuilding the new?

Waukee is closed Monday and Tuesday and just canceled tomorrow so a 5 day stretch with the kids locked inside…

On an unrelated note - what’s the cutoff age for dropping kids in those Safe Haven boxes? Asking for a friend.
If you can make it to the border, I believe Nebraska's is 18.

Side streets are still a real mess tonight (they never got super clear after Tuesday and then add on 2 inches of snow last night). I was hoping they'd get clear before the cold temps hit, but that's not going to happen.

Someone please tell the cold cold temps to the NW will pump in all the dry air in the world to limit the snow amounts?
