***Official 2024 Weather Thread***

I was just talking to my wife about why they hadn't yet. There's no chance it's now snowing buckets in central Iowa during the time buses would be transporting to school, and likely worse when they'd be leaving. Just let people get their ducks in a row with some advance notice.
All three canceled days this week here in CR the district has announced it at 3:00 exactly. Classes let out at 2:50, so I think they were specifically waiting for classes to be out today, before making an announcement about tomorrow.

Linn-Mar is out Friday and Monday anyway.

Blizzard warning's just issued. I'll go ahead and assume there will hardly be an school in session tomorrow.

Wonder how often we see blizzard warnings? I was surprised we didn’t the last storm.
A blizzard has to meet certain criteria for sustained wind speeds for a period of time and significant visibility impacts that we don't really see very often. Like hours long white-out conditions.

On this date in 1975 what was called "The Blizzard of the Century" hit the midwest. In Eastern Nebraska and western Iowa snow amounts were about or a little more than is forecast for tonight and tomorrow however the winds gusted to 80mph and15 people died as did over 100k of various livestock.

Hopefully this one isn't quite that, but it sounds like it will be close.
