You are 'lucky.' In my experience they like to show their 'unsightly sides' at the worst possible times. Like when it is -20 on new years day.

2 days before christmas last year when it was like -20, the furnace at my rental unit went out. The condensate line had frozen in the cold room (its one of those units where the furnace is outside the unit in a closet). This caused the remaining condensate to drip down until it was just a block of ice in the bottom of the furnace.

My furnace just died and we can't get a new one installed until Tuesday, so thankfully it hasn't been bad. Between a couple electric radiators and our gas fireplace, it's staying around 65 in there.
Just the fan? Capacitor? What does on it? Had my capacitor take a crap on me awhile back and those are easy to find replacements for on Amazon and to replace if you have any mechanical aptitude.

Ensemble for Des Moines has really come into agreement for two minor snows tonight into Saturday evening and for the storm Monday evening-Tuesday. All ensemble members are showing snow, most with at least 3" and a few with several inches.

While this image focuses on Des Moines, I think we're looking at increasing totals and impact moving into southern Iowa towards the Missouri border.

Plowable snow looks likely for central and southern Iowa. Wind will be a factor Tuesday afternoon with gusts to around 30 from the northwest.

I'd plan for some travel impacts Monday night to Tuesday night across parts of the state.

Several more 'disturbances' to watch towards next weekend but the ensemble is struggling how to handle them. Should be a very active period for the next couple of weeks.

Husband's supposed to travel from DSM metro to Burlington Monday night and then drive back. Hopefully the event will be postponed/cancel.

Weather Underground calling for about 3 inches in Cedar Rapids Monday night into Tuesday. Adding up the NWS hourly forecasts gets it in the 4 inch area.

NWS forecast discussion mentions a late-week storm, with lower temperatures tending to pump up snow amounts/sticking. Weather Underground right now says 7 inches on Friday. o_O

It definitely looks like the Monday/Tuesday storm will miss most of Iowa. Monday night a few inches in the southern part of the state. Strong winds will accompany this system. Tuesdays impacts will likely be more in Illinois.

After this storm it will get colder which in all reality just means much closer to January averages. Which sets us up for the next system and from this mornings DVN discussion.

"The storm the end of the week could end up being more impactful. Ignoring the current snowfall forecasts for this system what makes this more impactful is that the colder arctic air will be in place. This means higher snowfall ratios and more likely to stick to the ground quicker. We will have to watch this storm as well. With winter finally showing up, we look to have two strong storm systems this week."

All joke aside I just think it's funny how the media hypes up everything now. They've been taking about it on the news since Tuesday and now it's between 0-2 inches. I'm old enough to remember when that was called "Winter".
Is talking about it hyping it or using their platform to address the non stop tweets, emails, comments and calls they get asking about it because everyone saw/heard about it elsewhere?

I just looked at that site a few minutes ago, down here in SE Iowa looks like we are supposed to get at least 7 inches and maybe a foot. Good thing I got the snowblower running a couple of weeks ago.
Best thing about being retired, we have no place that we have to go too, so we can just hunker down and watch it snow.

Looks like latest model runs have upped things.
