***Official 2024 Weather Thread***

I tried to aerate a few weeks ago with my pull-behind. I quickly realized how pointless it was. 150 pounds of weight sitting on it and it still bounced off the ground like it was concrete.

Mine looked like it went okay but the plugs sure as hell aren't breaking down lol

I knew my tiller would be worthless on my garden this fall, so I decided to spade it. Looks like I cornered the market on bowling balls with all the huge clods I have in it now.

Since you Iowa peeps are in the same no rain since August situation as me I'll throw out a tree and shrub care suggestion. Give your evergreen trees and shrubs a good soaking in. They need the stored moisture for the winter.

I am going to drag the hose with a soaker nozzle on the end out for my white pines, rhododendrons and yews. Rhododendrons were wilting when I lugged some water cans over and gave them a drink last night. My yard has cracks in it, that's too dry!

Almost all of Jones County is in the 0-2% range and there still isn't a burn ban. Every surrounding county has a burn ban

There was a fairly big field fire north of Waterloo yesterday. Not sure what started it, but I wouldn’t burn a thing out in the country right now. Everything is a tinderbox.

It's amazing there haven't been more field fires with the conditions. It doesn't look like any notable rain chances through the end of the month either.

There was one by Prairieburg yesterday as well. Not very big from the sounds of it but a field with standing corn.

1) There was a large grass fire on the shoulder of southbound I-35 just south of Ames. That was happening this evening.
2) Facebook memories tells me that we had our first measurable snowfall, even if just a trace, four years ago.
