***Official 2024 Weather Thread***

The new truancy rules could make that messy. It would be hard to prove attendance.

If they can prove attendance for work from home folks, I think they can figure it out for students. Could be just as simple as giving them an assignment to complete during class time.

Sure, there is beurocracy in the way. But that’s just an excuse to avoid a common sense thing. Give schools something like 3 weather days at home each year. Have schools submit a plan for weather before the school year to be allowed those days. Ensure that each child has the technology required, again before the school year not when it gets snowy or hot.

This seems like an easy thing to do if there is a desire.

So add 3 more snow days on top of the 4-6 that most have packed in already?

No. Allow for 3 home days to count to the total days so if you have a snowstorm, you don’t need to make it up. Our school district doesn’t add more than 1-2 days. So last year we added several days to the end of the school year.

Schools in my area have on average about 5 built in. We used 3 last year. One for snow and 2 for state football. Why most went to hours, they can add several days and make it work.

The 4 day schools generally didn’t do this.

In west Ames: 1.2 inches in our rain gauge, and a rather large branch in our neighbor's yard, probably from one of our trees.

Definitely smashed records for hours spent on a lawn mower this summer. I've basically mowed every single week since April with no break.
